Position Summary
The April Parker Foundation is offering an exciting opportunity for a Community Intervention Worker Intern ages 14-18 to join our team. In this role, you will have the chance to gain hands-on experience in assisting individuals and families who are facing various challenges and barriers within the community. This internship will provide valuable exposure to community-based work, social services, and violence prevention initiatives.
The Community Intervention Worker Intern will work closely with experienced staff members and participate in community outreach efforts, community events, and engagement activities. You will assist in identifying individuals who may be at risk of community violence and providing support services to promote safety and well-being. We are looking for motivated individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact in their community and are eager to learn and grow.
This is an unpaid internship position that requires a commitment of a minimum of 10 hours per week.
Responsibilities
Assist in conducting street outreach to identify and engage with individuals at risk of gun violence
Participate in community events and activities to build relationships and create awareness around violence prevention initiatives
Support the team in providing resources, referrals, and follow-up services to individuals and families in need
Collaborate with other team members to develop and implement community intervention strategies
Contribute to data collection and reporting efforts to monitor the effectiveness of the program
Requirements
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a North Long Beach Middle or High School
Passion for community outreach and social services
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Knowledge of community resources and services is a plus
Willingness to learn and contribute to a team environment
Compensation is $21.00; 4 hours per week
