Overview:

Performs clerical duties related to patient diet orders and menus. Serves as a liaison between patients and the food and nutrition services department. Processes information related to nutritional care of patients. Collects, maintains, and communicates data relative to patient's dietary requirements and operational needs of the department. 

Responsibilities:

Uses a computer for basic functions and data entry using Word, Excel, Outlook, and other nutrition related software such as Computrition. Collects and maintains statistical data and/or financial records and reports as assigned. Works cash register as needed.

Collects patient meal and snack choices according to the diet order. Ensures the patient's age specific, food allergy, religious, cultural and food preference needs are accommodated. 

Offers patients alternative food and beverage selections and resolves problems and concerns utilizing the patient care team, registered dietitian, or management. 

Prepares tray tickets for tray line. Assembles patient meals and snacks accurately and according to diet order, tray ticket, snack label or other protocol. Measures food into individual servings. Prepares drinks to appropriate consistency. May prepare food as needed.

As assigned,  may deliver meals, snacks, and serve trays to patients. May also deliver and store non-patient meals, catering or other assigned food and supplies. 

Documents equipment malfunctions according to facility procedure.

As assigned delivers meals, snacks, or supplies to patients, nurses, or patient nourishment rooms.

Prepares and delivers catering orders as needed.

Receives and stores product deliveries such as groceries, tube feedings, supplements, office supplies, equipment, and paper goods. Organizes new products in proper location using "First In, First Out" (FIFO) method. Discards dented products, extra cardboard or garbage, labels all products as assigned. Inspects deliveries and reviews invoices for accuracy and proper condition of goods. 

Assists in training new employees and performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Experience: At least 6 months experience in food service in a health care facility.

Licenses & Certifications: Food Handler's Card required or obtain within 90 days of employment.

Required Skills & Knowledge: Ability to read, write, and speak English. Basic computer knowledge (word/excel). Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions. Demonstrates service oriented behaviors that includes culturally sensitive good manners, respect, and polite communications. Demonstrates openness to creative and innovative approaches to providing service. Maintains confidentiality; treats co-workers, patients, and facility visitor with respect. Contributes to building a positive team spirit. Knowledge of basic nutrition is desirable. 

Compensation:

Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to level of experience, education, special skills and/or certifications.
