Responsibilities:
As a leading multiline insurance carrier, State Farm and the Life & Health Underwriting Department is committed to delivering exceptional insurance solutions and providing protection for our policyholders. We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced licensed medical doctor to join our team!
As an Associate Medical Director, you will apply medical expertise in the areas of research, professional opinion, risk assessment and education to shape underwriting practices for two product lines: Life insurance and Health insurance. You will be an active member in the industry, continuously looking for opportunities to refine our business practices by participating in the development of underwriting guidelines and educating underwriters and analysts as part of the risk appraisal process.
Ability to manage multiple initiatives, such as, literature reviews, consultations to business partners, file reviews, recommendations to the risk evaluation process
Maintain contemporary medical knowledge to enhance subject matter knowledge and inform of mortality/morbidity/medical guidelines/testing protocols in consideration of underwriting impacts
Qualifications:
This role is best suited for licensed medical doctors that stay abreast of new developments in medicine, have a keen interest in insurance medicine and how technology is evolving healthcare, mortality and morbidity. This is not a patient focused role, but an opportunity to scale medical knowledge and expertise via collaboration, proactive education, the consideration of business impacts and a curiosity for innovation.
Professional medical degree, i.e., Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (OD) or Doctor of Medicine (MD) with successful post-graduate education and a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in at least one state
Possesses (or willingness to pursue) board certification in insurance medicine
Involvement in developing and presenting training/educational topics to a broad audience
Hybrid work arrangements preferred (Bloomington, IL; Richardson, TX; Tempe, AZ) and travel to other business locations
