Overview:

This position is responsible for reviewing and analyzing underwriting information to determine if individual risks meet corporate underwriting standards.  Accepts, declines, or modifies policies written by the agency force while providing superior customer service.

Responsibilities:

Review applications, re-inspections and policy changes to evaluate, classify, terminate and/or modify policies according to underwriting guidelines.

Acquire and maintain knowledge of applicable policy contracts, endorsements, forms, manuals, coding information and other material pertinent to this position.

Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with agency force and state office personnel

Communicate with agency force in an effective and collaborative manner

Use Motor Vehicle, Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange Reports and other investigative reports to determine the acceptability of the risk.

Review and understand statistical information such as loss ratios and other company reports.

Assist agency staff with new systems and procedures.

Counsel with policyholders by phone and in person if needed.

Participate in departmental or organizational projects as needed.

Return telephone calls and other correspondence promptly and with courtesy.

Participate in all internal company training and continuing education

Comply with Company Guidelines as defined in the Underwriting Manuals.

Responsible for production and profitability of business in assigned agencies.

Participate in specific company directives focusing on profitability.

Attend and participate in meetings as required.

Regular and predictable attendance.

Physical demands: Normal vision/hearing (with or without correction); Speaking; Travel (limited).

Mental demands: Analytic reasoning; Prolonged concentration; Patience to deal with frequent interruptions; Strong attention to detail; Ability to adjust to workplace changes.

Environmental factors: Standard office lighting, temperature, and noise.

Equipment: Telephone; Calculator; Laptop; Copy machine; Fax machine.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or a combination of formal education, training and experience to acquire knowledge and skills generally equivalent to those possessed by a college graduate, or,

General Insurance Certificate (INS 21, 22, 23).

Underwriting experience preferred.

Good verbal, listening and written communication skills.

Good math aptitude.

Good organizational and public relations skills.

Good computer skills.

Good problem-solving and creative-thinking skills.

Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

Standard to above average performance.
