Iridium is seeking a motivated Modeling and Simulation Systems Engineer to join our Government Programs Solutions Engineering Team on a Space Development Agency (SDA) project. As a Modeling and Simulation Systems Engineer, you will work on the high-fidelity physics-based and requirements-based modeling and analysis of space and ground network systems. What You’ll Do:
Be responsible for ensuring the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solution utilizing best practices from Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
Establish system architecture and CONOPS (Concept of Operations), perform system trades and analysis, flow down the architecture and CONOPS into requirements and interfaces, and support verification planning
Utilize the latest in MBSE tools (Cameo) and processes to generate synergistic models to establish linkages across verification artifacts and requirements
Be responsible for developing MBSE models and artifacts, and managing and employing System Engineering (SE) standard methods, SE processes, and Digital Engineering tools to accomplish requirements analysis, problem diagnosis and solution design, integration and test preparation, risk assessment and mitigation planning, and related activities
Be responsible for system lifecycle including technical planning, system hardware-software-network design, development and integration, verification and validation, and fielding by performing systems requirements analysis, functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition, technical management, integration, system testing, and quality assurance
Work independently to perform Satellite Space Segment and Ground Segment Trade Studies based on MBSE analyses
Play a key role in major reviews such as: Systems Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Program Increment Demonstrations
Autonomously perform simulations and analyses that ensure system designs meet technical performance targets
Build, maintain, and contribute to Modeling and Simulation of both space and ground network architectures
Experience & Education Requirements / EEO:
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related STEM fields
8+ years of related Systems Engineering experience for complex technical projects, preferably direct experience in Satellite telecommunications, protocols, ground networks, electronic products development/manufacturing
Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering software and languages such as MagicDraw/Cameo and SysML/UML or similar languages
Experience with Systems Tool Kit (STK) or similar physical modeling software
Ability to learn and understand the functionality of the overall Project System and Subsystems and model them accordingly
Strong communication skills, with the ability to confidently present products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues
Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions or come up with solutions
Be comfortable managing upward, including being a proactive communicator and asking for help when needed
Have confidence and be able to establish valuable relationships with others
Must be able to prioritize key tasks and have a strong sense of ownership over your work
Be active in seeking out ways to continuously improve yourself and gain new knowledge
Be accountable for the success of yourself and your team
Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:
Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related STEM fields
Programming languages such as C++, Java, Python, Shell scripting
Working knowledge of networking, Satellite link budgets, routers, switches, etc.
Familiarity with Tool Suite such as R4J, Jira and Confluence
Strong knowledge of system engineering methodologies
A good understanding of tools and software applications that support system engineering best practices
Experience with orbital mechanics, Satellite launches and early orbit Satellite functions
Ability to work on U.S. Government programs (CUI (Controlled Unclassified Information) minimum, but ability to gain or having an active Top Secret Security Clearance is preferred)
We’ll also need you to:
Be able to travel up to 10%
Be able to work in the office at least 2 days a week to foster collaboration with the team and stakeholders
Be a US Citizen with no dual citizenships
Work Environment:
This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer.
