Job Description
The Resource Coordinator, Rehabilitation Services reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Develops and administers physical therapy or occupational therapy evaluations and treatment plans for patients by providing assessments and selecting appropriate techniques and therapies to restore function and prevent disability
Assumes managerial responsibilities in the absence of the manager or director
Responsibilities:
Performs all functions of a staff physical therapist or staff occupational therapist within all patient care service lines: neuroscience, orthopedics, general medicine, surgery, oncology, cardiac. See job class #7522 and # 0756
Provides orientation, technical/clinical direction, and guidance to staff upon hire and on an ongoing basis to ensure standards of high quality are achieved and maintained in patient care delivery and compliance with policies and procedures
Assists manager in completing Performance Management Process (PMP) on staff therapists and support staff
Encourages teamwork and effective and timely verbal, written and electronic communication with rehab staff, hospital personnel and medical staff to promote the philosophy and objectives of the Hospital and Department
Develop and coordinate staff patient care assignments and proactively monitor daily operations to optimize coverage and direct resources to respond to demand and improve throughput
Assist manager with charge editing reports, billing errors, and claim audits. Assist manager with standardized functional reporting. Assist manager to monitor revenue, expense, volume, and productivity to manage to budget.
Develops and implements programs such as patient education and treatment guidelines to provide current, innovative therapeutic interventions and evidenced based patient care.
Facilitates effective relationships with all hospital personnel and medical staff. Develops good communication channels and excellent follow-through of issues to ensure high quality standards and timely delivery of care
In absence of the manager, effectively assume his/her responsibilities to carry through the operations of the department
Administration of Work
Provides direct patient care for an estimated 50% of hours worked; see direct patient care responsibilities listed in job description #7522 and #0756
Contributes to research projects and program development by designing guidelines, gathering data, and producing reports
Identify quality management monitors and facilitate the ongoing collection of data to support improved clinical, and operational outcomes
Designs and presents in service programs to department, hospital staff, community, and business
Leadership/ Supervisory Skills
Develop and implement new programs to support new and/or expanding clinical services and department operations
Reviews and revises existing programs and service manuals
Identifies strengths and weaknesses of employees to properly assess employee growth and need for training/education throughout the year.
Teaches specific clinical skills to staff/students and serves as a mentor
Assists manager in the hiring process
Monitors/develops/evaluates competency program
Attends a minimum of one continuing education course and nine grand rounds per year
Presents a minimum of one in service per year to the staff
Pursues external lecture opportunities
Completes special projects – as assigned
Acts as a resource coordinator for approximately 20- 35 therapists or therapy assistants
Communications/Relationships
Maintains/promotes open communication with internal and external contacts
Serves on assigned departmental and hospital committees
Keeps manager abreast of all activities occurring within the department
Serves as a liaison between the Department of Rehabilitation Services, Patient Care Service Lines, and the medical staff to promote consistently high quality and delivery of patient care and/or expansion of the referral base
