Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children

Providing compassionate care to the children, teenagers and young adults of Central Florida for more than 30 years, Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children is located on the downtown Orlando campus and includes 156 licensed beds for specialized care for children as well as the Bert Martin’s Champions for Children Emergency Department & Trauma Center, offering trauma care for children as the pediatric site of the Orlando Health ORMC Level One Trauma Center. State-of-the-art pediatric services are provided by a comprehensive staff that includes pediatric subspecialty physicians and a nursing team that is “Magnet” recognized for nursing excellence and high-quality patient care. The hospital also has earned national recognition for 12 consecutive years as a “Best Children’s Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report and was included, together with Orlando Health ORMC, in the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals® list for 2021.

Arnold Palmer Children Hospital Pharmacy Department is seeking Pharmacy Technician Supervisor. The Pharmacy Tech Supervisior participates in all personnel management issues related to pharmacy technicians and pharmacy technician leads to deliver safe and efficient medication distribution services.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

• Interviews applicants, recommends hiring, promoting, and termination for associates within the span of human resource control.

• Conducts coaching plans and disciplinary actions to improve the performance of the direct reports.

• Assumes responsibility for competency assessment, orientation/training, and education of direct reports.

• Conducts regular meetings with the pharmacy technician staff and direct reports to establish clear and open lines of communication.

• Oversees the scheduling process to ensure appropriate use of the human resources to meet patient care or service needs.

• Achieves departmental and organizational goals by coordinating activities of the pharmacy technicians.

• Participates in the departmental process improvement and quality management programs.

• Maintains an understanding of the contemporary practice standards as they relate to certified pharmacy technicians, controlled substance specialist, pharmacy technology specialist, regulatory compliance specialist and/or pharmacy buyer.

• Assumes other responsibilities as assigned for executing strategic changes to help improve the department’s workflow, staffing, safety, and efficiency.

• Manages various personnel functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and disciplinary actions.

• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions 

• Attends meetings that affect the direct workgroup in a punctual and consistent manner.

• Collaborates with other cross-functional groups (e.g. clinical team, pharmacists, nursing, and ancillary) to achieve common goals.

• Assumes responsibility for professional development, growth, and education.

• Reviews, investigates, and develops action steps to incident reports as they pertain to the direct workgroup.

• Demonstrates leadership skills in both verbal and non-verbal communications and behaviors.

Qualifications:

Education/Training

Must meet one of the following requirements:

 Six (6) years experience as a pharmacy technician OR

 Four (4) years experience as a pharmacy technician and Associate of Science degree OR

 Two (2) years experience as a pharmacy technician and Bachelors or Science degree

Licensure/Certification

• Must be currently registered with the Florida State Board of Pharmacy, renewed every two years.

• Certification as a Pharmacy Technician by either PTCB or related national body.

Experience

Two (2) years experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital setting.
