Responsibilities:

Responsible for planning, coordinating, administration, control, quality improvement, and management of daily operational activities of the Engineering Department. 

Hires, trains, orients, counsels, evaluates, and administers disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Responsible for maintaining building and equipment; manages the preventive maintenance and work order programs.

Assists Director in determining budget and operational expenses involving maintenance and replacement of capital items.  Identifies trends impacting departmental expenses by reviewing monthly reports and discussing findings with appropriate Directors.

Develops strategies, maintains documentation, and conducts training for Fire Safety, Utility and Equipment Management programs.

Sketches plans, reads and interprets blueprints and manufacturers specifications, and requisitions equipment and materials for installations and repairs.

Develops JCAHO/OSHA compliance strategies.

Performs facility wide inspections to determine status of building and equipment.  Coordinates or arranges for preventive maintenance programs.

Responsible for controlling job costs for budgetary purposes, and maintains pertinent records.

Assigns crews to specific jobs, and spot checks work to ensure that workmanship meets safety standards and regulations.

Maintains files on work done in the physical plant, building and grounds.

Ensures that general maintenance, repairs, computer cable installations, and repairs to electrical and electronic related equipment and mechanical systems is done within local codes and safety regulations.

Performs specific duties as member of Fire Response and Chemical Spill Clean‑Up teams.

Acts as the hospital's safety representative for Engineering and Construction. 

Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.  Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager.

Qualifications:

1. Two (2) year technical school graduate or equivalent.

2. Seven (7) years experience in facilities maintenance and plant operation, of which four (4) years must be in a supervisory capacity.

3. Demonstrated ability in general areas of structural, mechanical, electrical, electronic, and minor hospital systems and equipment repair.

4. Demonstrated ability to read blueprints and understand minor construction estimating and material usage.

5. Knowledge of NFPA 101 Life Safety Code and NFPA 99 Healthcare Code.

6. Familiar with JCAHO Statement of Conditions and Environment of Care Standards

PREFERRED:

1. Computer experience to include some experience with CADD.

Work Hours::

7am-3:30pm
