Responsibilities:

The Clinical Resource Supervisor for Wound Care acts as a resource, role model, and expert to prevent and manage skin breakdown and complex wounds in patients across all hospital floors.   By ensuring that evidence-based care is provided to promote optimal healing, this role includes, but is not limited to conducting wound rounds on all floors, providing specialized care, support, and education to patients and staff.  The Clinical Resource Supervisor for Wound Care formulates policies and educational resources relative to wounds and appropriate management strategies through collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team.  In addition, he/she will monitor, aggregate, and report performance improvement strategies and outcomes. 

Conduct wound rounds across all hospital floors, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to review patient cases and adjust care plans as needed.

Implements a comprehensive pressure ulcer/wound care/ostomy management plan based on assessment of medical social, and environmental needs of the pressure ulcer/wound care/ostomy.

Evaluates patient's responses to care provided in conjunction with patient’s physician and modifies pressure ulcer/wound care /ostomy plan of treatment as needed.

Utilizes written materials as indicated, consistent with patient/family’s comprehension and ability to learn, and analyzes data related to Pressure Injuries, while overseeing methodology for collection of data as well as coordinates completion and submission of related surveys and/or reports.  Participates and/or chairs in various committees and studies and functions as a resource person to management and staff in matters regarding pressure ulcer/ wound/ostomy management.

Educates staff on new technologies, health care issues and evidence-based practices of affecting pressure ulcer/wound care/ostomy management as well as creates competencies for the nursing ongoing competencies.

Follows the standards of the Organization of Wound Care Nurses (OWCN).

Demonstrates knowledge and skill to develop and implement policies and procedures to manage patients with draining wounds, fistulae and/or tubes, wound prevention, wound care, ostomy care, and incontinence.

Maintains effective, ongoing, and timely communication with staff and maintains records of meetings.

Serves as a liaison to all other departments and demonstrates effective teambuilding and problem-solving strategies in all departmental interactions.

Acts as a resource to staff for regulatory and policy matters.

Coordinates staff competency plan in collaboration with nursing education

Identifies and meets learning needs to maintain competency and respond to clinical and management expectations.

Shares new knowledge with staff and peers. Facilitates and ensures orientation of personnel to the unit.

Evaluates work performance and clinical competency of personnel on a timely basis. Takes corrective and/or disciplinary action with staff in collaboration with the nursing director and Human Resources.

Counsels and coaches staff concerning their work performance and development holds staff accountable for performance, documents findings and remediations in congruence with nurse managers

Develops unit objectives on a yearly basis and submits progress reports as required.

Makes recommendations for staff educational needs and plans educational activities with the education department.

Ensures compliance with current Joint Commission (TJC) standards in partnership with our Quality, Safety and PI department.

Responsible for patient safety by monitoring and reporting sentinel events, participates in RCAs.

Performs related duties as required. Operates all equipment correctly and safely. Integrates research findings to clinical practice.

Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary Performs other related assigned duties. Performs unrelated duties in times of emergency.

Sitting, standing, walking, and bending  May require movement throughout the building during the workday.

Must be able to lift, push, pull and move a minimum of 35 pounds.

Strong knowledge of wound care treatments, protocols, and best practices.

Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.





Qualifications:

Must have a NYS RN license. Minimum of 2 years of wound care experience in a clinical setting. Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required , MSN preferred.  Current Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse Certification (CWOCN) required, plus specialized certifications as needed. Master's degree in a related field.
