We are seeking a Maintenance Person / Handyman for a fantastic family-owned Care Group which operates 2 small Residential Care Homes in the Portsmouth area. They are looking to add a second person to their maintenance team, working 3, 4 or 5 days per week, Monday to Friday, on a permanent contract.

* £13.50-14.50 per hour

Job description

As a Maintenance Person / Maintenance Worker you will take responsibility for resolving any home maintenance concerns promptly, ensuring that the care home is a clean and well-maintained environment so that residents feel at home and staff can do their jobs well. You will have a working knowledge of building systems and related regulatory requirements including, but not limited to: plumbing, HVAC, electrical, equipment repairs and interior/exterior finishes.

You must have good knowledge of relevant health and safety and trade regulations, and have the ability to assess and manage risk. Importantly, you must also have the ability to work on your own initiative and address potential issues as they may arise before they affect the daily running of the Care Home.

Our client is an independently owned care company with 2 homes in the Portsmouth area, one with 28 beds and the other 18 beds, both specialising in elderly care. You will be working for an established family-owned care company with a strong history of supporting and developing their staff. In return they can offer a friendly working environment, yearly pay reviews and many other incentives!

This Maintenance role is working across both sites with 2/3 days spent at each. You will be working opposite the other Maintenance Person, with 1 of you based at each home each day and working together on any larger jobs.

Care Home Maintenance Person responsibilities

* Identify and carry out repairs and improvements in accordance to the Care Home’s procedures and quality standards.

* Ensure a safe environment is maintained at all times within the Home, reporting any incidents, accidents, infections or hazards/ faults.

* Carry out all required tests and checks for various systems of the home on weekly, monthly and annual basis.

Care Home Maintenance Person skills/experience

* Good general property maintenance knowledge and skills

* Previous experience as a Maintenance Assistant, Handyman or Head of Maintenance is preferred

* Relevant qualifications such as NVQ/Diploma/City & Guilds and Health & Safety/NEBOSH certificate (preferred but not essential)
