Job Overview:

As an Engineering Technician III (Cost Estimator) you will provide support to the Construction Contracts Team by developing conceptual, preliminary, and detailed construction cost estimates for a variety of public work projects including construction and rehabilitation of pipelines, treatment plants, specialty mechanical and electrical projects, and general civil engineering projects.  

You will use your knowledge and experience to: review plans and specifications to determine probable construction methods; calculate material quantities and costs; research alternative construction methods and associated costs; perform constructability and schedule reviews; assist in change order estimates; document estimates utilizing an estimating software such as Sage Estimating Software; obtain vendor quotes for major equipment and commodities; develop and justify indirect costs associated with construction cost estimates; and conduct technical research related to economic trends on cost estimates within the construction industry. 

Schedule: 44/36, Monday through Friday /Every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday. Start times are no earlier than 6 am and end times are no later than 6 pm.

Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:  High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate (HSEC), and two years of accredited college or university in engineering and six years of relevant experience, two years of which must have been at the Engineering Technician II level.

Relevant Experience is defined as: Relevant experience is defined as construction cost engineering (estimating) experience, including developing conceptual and detailed engineering cost estimates.

License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
