Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 + benefits

My client a leader in defence systems is actively seeking a Principal Safety Engineer to work on pioneering projects that leverage cutting-edge technology and innovation for strategically important National Defence programmes. As a vital member of the Systems Safety team, you will deliver complex safety-critical systems and uphold defence standards across multiple platforms.

Key Responsibilities for the position of Principal Safety Engineer

• Conduct safety analyses including HAZOPs, FFA, FTA, and FMECA, adhering to safety processes and guidelines from Def Stan 00-056 and IEC61508.
• Generate safety requirements ensuring compliance with customer safety targets.
• Present compelling safety arguments to stakeholders, influencing key safety decisions.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to enhance our reputation through high-quality outputs.
• Support audits during internal and external design reviews and safety committee meetings.

Experience required for the position of Principal Safety Engineer

• Proven track record in Systems Safety within the UK Defence industry.
• Relevant qualification (Degree, HND, or HNC) in Engineering or Safety Management, or equivalent experience.
• Familiarity with international and defence standards like IEC 61508 and Def Stan 00-056.
• Experience in safety/reliability analysis techniques and risk assessment methodologies.
• Understanding of safety assurance for COTS PE-based systems or high-integrity software.
