Job Description

A Material Handler focuses on a variety of production floor tasks related to plastic resin material at any point from the beginning to the end of the molding process.  The material handler moves material containers (gaylords, barrels, buckets) between storage and various work cells and vice versa.  This role also guides the flow of materials from a central drying bin area out to various injection/extrusion molding machine work cells by managing settings for a vacuum receiver/tube network and distribution manifold.  Injection/extrusion molding machines at the various work cells can occasionally run out of material whereby material handlers must intervene to ensure the material is again resupplied.  In addition to monitoring the central drying system status, portable dryers are often used and moved around to dry different materials beside the molding machines.  Blending machines, which automatically mix materials, need setup, checking, clearing, etc.  Runners and full “shots” of plastic will be ground up in various granulators throughout the plant.  These granulators sometimes clog or jam, requiring material handlers to clear these jams to then restart them.  All these aspects of the overall material flow (material handling equipment such as storage containers, dryers, blenders, granulators, etc.) throughout all of the material systems may need cleaning out by material handlers for changeovers to new materials. This position is for 1st Shift 7AM-3PM

Set up, monitor & adjust material handling equipment (mixers, vacuum systems, grinders, color feeder & etc…)

Prepare and execute material / color changes per schedule

Work to minimize machine downtime related to material issues and reduce scrap

Completing inventory counts as assigned by leadership

Follows established work instructions, policies and procedures.

Cover breaks and back up for packers as needed

Consistently work in a safe manner with regard to self, co-workers, and manufacturing equipment

Perform general housekeeping within the department/group and assist other areas as required
