Shop Manager Role And Responsibilities Ⓡ

Your leadership is critical to ensuring your Drybar shop is run well. Drybar is a fun, fast-paced, and, most importantly, team-focused environment.

Job Summary / Purpose: The Support Center suggests that the Drybar Shop Manager be responsible for overall shop operations. This individual may lead the internal and external client experience, upholds and enforces Drybar standards and policies, manages the

day-to-day business, and can be fully responsible for the performance of the assigned shop. In addition, the Shop Manager may be responsible for maintaining positive team morale and using the brand's Heart & Soul to lead the shop’s culture.

Essential Job Functions

Manage the shop and leadership team.

Interview and select high-quality candidates, ensuring candidates are a cultural fit and able to meet Drybar standards after thorough training.

Take the initiative to attract and recruit Stylists locally. Develop relationships with local beauty schools in partnership with the Shop Educator.

Responsible for setting and meeting daily budget goals.

Coach and provide feedback as necessary for all team members, ensuring Drybar standards are being met at all times (hair quality and customer experience). Assign additional training if needed.

Maximize the shop’s financial potential.

Provide vision for and lead from Drybar’s Heart & Soul Values.

Identify and develop talent: Invest extra time in coaching high potential Stylists and Bartenders for future leadership roles in the organization in partnership with the Shop Educator and franchisee.

Maintain the overall visual shop appearance per brand standards.

Inspire a safety culture.

Resolve team member relations and customer issues, ensuring the company is protected against liability with mindfulness of shop morale and culture. Follow all company policies and procedures. When in doubt, ask for help.

Supervisory Responsibilities: All positions in the assigned shop.

Is widely trusted and seen as a direct, truthful individual.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and variable hours based on business needs.

Ability to effectively lead and develop a team, create a positive work environment, train and provide guidance on business and technical competency matters, and resolve team member issues.

Steps up to conflicts, seeing them as opportunities; reads situations quickly; good at focused listening; can hammer out tough arguments and settle disputes equitably.

Ability to hire, train and develop a team.

Driven and results-oriented. Can be counted on to exceed goals successfully; is constantly and consistently one of the top performers; very bottom-line oriented; steadfastly pushes self and others for results.

Understand loss prevention for audit purposes and the protection of shop assets.

High level of understanding of inventory control.

Able to meet standard operational deadlines.

Important Tasks:

As listed above, there are several duties and tasks suggested by all Shop Managers. Below we dive a little deeper into a few of the important tasks you’ll be responsible for in your shop, as well as the resources you’ll use to be successful.

Marketing within the Trade Area

Grow awareness of Drybar in the trade area.  Create relationships with businesses and local clientele to increase the time for Drybar to “ramp” up business. 

Labor Laws, Company Policies, And Best Practices:

As a Shop Manager, you are responsible for operating your shop in accordance with labor laws and company policies.

Company Communication:

Our weekly company-wide communication, News You Can Use, is typically distributed on Tuesdays. Shop Managers are suggested to distribute this information to applicable team members. Read the New You Can Use thoroughly. It often contains important information that you need to implement, as well as important information about new products or promotions.

Time Management:

Most team members are hourly employees. Therefore, you may be responsible for ensuring that all time worked is accurately accounted for and submitted properly to Payroll (if approved by the franchisee). This is one of the most important responsibilities of a Shop Manager - team members’ paychecks depend on it!

Time Off Requests:

The Franchisee or leadership team confirms management time off requests.

Leading Training:

As a Shop Manager, you may be responsible for hiring and overseeing the training of all Bartenders and/or Shift Leads. You may also support the hiring of stylists and performing any operational training to supplement their technical hair training.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 years Management experience in a Salon or Retail environment.

Cosmetology License preferred but not required.

Some college preferred but not required

Must be able to work Tuesday-Saturday, with flexibility. Times will vary based on business needs.

Must be able to work holidays (Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, New Years Eve).

Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Must have reliable transportation
