Senior Digital Forensic Specialist
Our client, a large government customer, is seeking a Senior Digital Forensic Specialist to join their team. The role is based in London on a full time basis.
Initial contracts will run for 6 months and offer a rate up to £600/day
IR35 STATUS: Inside IR35. This engagement has been assessed by the public body as Inside IR35 legislation. Candidates would be required to operate through an umbrella company on this engagement.

This role requires Active SC (Security Check) clearance. Applicants require active SC clearance or the willingness to go through clearance before starting on site. Candidates with current clearance will be preferred.
The Role
The Digital Forensic Unit (DFU) is responsible for the processing and analysis of digital evidence seized by or provided to the Serious Fraud Office. This includes the triage of items during searches, forensic extraction and the processing of these items into a medium that Case Teams can access through the SFO eDiscovery System. The DFU works closely with the Case Teams to ensure that required material is delivered in a timely and appropriate manner.
Senior Digital Forensic Specialist contractors are required to support the work of the DFU by contributing to building lab capability and Forensic Science Regulator compliance as well as undertaking complex processing, analysis and interpretation of digital evidence. You will act as subject matter experts, giving guidance to DFU colleagues & investigative staff and providing insights and reporting into Case Teams and the Criminal Justice System.
You will be required to provide reports and updates to the Head of Unit in a timely manner, including pre-senting findings, developments and recommendations regarding digital material. You will also mentor and develop staff and the capabilities of the unit.
Main Responsibilities
- Ensuring appropriate systems are in place and your work practices follow applicable standards (ISO 17025 and the FSR Code of Conduct) through regular Quality Assurance checks and adhering to (and developing) the SFO DFU Quality Management System.
- Developing and implementing methods, validation plans, training materials and competency assessments for digital forensic tasks (such as mobile phone, computer and loose media extraction, decoding and conversion).
- Support and guide Digital Forensic Specialists with complex technological/Digital Forensic/eDiscovery matters by sharing knowledge, building capability and working in collaboration to resolve issues.
- Provide reports and updates to the Head of Unit and internal stakeholders, including presenting findings, developments and recommendations to improve the timeliness and quality of DF activities.
- Assist the Head of DFU and Digital Forensic Consultants to undertake the strategic planning, review and co-ordination of DFU Examiner Training.
- Assist the Digital Evidence Quality manager to develop the lab QMS including developing methods, validation plans, training materials and competency tests.
- Provide witness statements and attend Court to give evidence in relation to digital forensic work undertaken.
- Contribute to office-wide initiatives such as policy development, training and other work that supports the strategic development of the SFO.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Significant experience as a Digital Forensic Investigator/Examiner.
- Experience of digital forensic casework and delivering results to customers.
- Extensive knowledge of digital media, operating systems, storage and devices (such as Computer, Mobile, Network, Business Systems, Cloud Forensics).
- Understanding of evidence handling procedures and principles.
- Understanding of the Forensic Science Regulator's codes as they apply to Digital Forensic acquisition, analysis and interpretation.
- Knowledge/Experience of introducing new policies and procedures into a digital forensic environment.
- Certification (previous/current) or equivalent experience of using one or more of the following forensic tools: EnCase (EnCE certification), Nuix (NICS), Cellebrite Certification (CCLO or CCPA), XRY, FTK, or similar.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience of working in a Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice environment.
Candidate Eligibility
Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK, this role will not offer Visa sponsorship. Tier 2 - General visas cannot be accepted. This role requires that candidates be willing to undergo BPSS (DS) Baseline Personnel Security Standard (with a Disclosure Scotland).
