Medical Supply Technician | BeLoved Hospice

Job Summary:
The Medical Supply Technician transports and delivers hospice supplies and equipment to patient’s homes and facilities that the organization collaborates with. The Technician performs delegated clinical supplies organization, inventory of medical products, and administrative duties in support of business operations and patient care. This position reports directly to the Hospice Supply Chain Department Manager.

Role Specific:
Deliver medical equipment and assist the department manager in the organization of medical supply ordering
Use personal or company vehicles for medical supply and equipment activities (delivering, picking up, emergent drop-offs, etc.)
Gathers patient data from Interdisciplinary teams, Nurses, CNAs, and CNA Coordinators for supply orders, drop-offs, and upcoming supply delivery needs
Deliver medical and patient care supplies to patient homes and facilities
Tracks supply usage in accordance with the supply inventory and purchasing process
Collaborates with department manager for supply ordering, organization, and upcoming supply and delivery needs
Assists in keeping inventory of supply closet(s)
Keeps track of supply orders and deliveries for the week and upcoming weeks
Assists in disaster and emergency preparedness
Create and maintain CNA and Nursing supply boxes for pick-up and delivery
Assists in ordering DME (durable Medical Equipment), communicating with DME supplier, and tracking DME budget
Performs safety assessments of patient environments following the standard safety assessment checklist. Confirms the condition of the environment via the patients’ or caregivers’ signature and submits the paperwork as appropriate to remain in compliance with the Department of Health
Maintains continuous communication via smart phone with the Customer Service and/or Dispatch team to relay a change in an order status or non-compliance with prescribed orders, position in routes, re-routing, stock availability and confirm delivery and pick up of equipment. This includes but is not limited to communicating availability of rolling stock, and location information. Additionally, escalates issues or potential issues to the customer service team as appropriate.
Participates with supervisor/manager to conduct a daily assessment and verification (Pre-Trip Inspection) of the truck, equipment and supplies and confirm basic safety operations (e.g., lights, brakes, mileage, vehicle appearance, etc.). Reports any damage and malfunctioning equipment immediately to manager
Communicate with interdisciplinary teams for patient supply needs
Use reliable transportation to transport, deliver, and pick up patient medical supplies
Follow HIPPA regulations at all times
Follow health and safety standards and protocol with sterilized medical equipment and supplies
Follows the safety program and adheres to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines to reduce work-related injuries
Other duties as assigned

HIPPA Requirements:
The Medical Supply Technician may have access to PHI during their day-to-day activities. The Medical Supply Tech may use this information to prepare medical supplies and equipment for drop off, to communicate patient needs to clients, CNAs, and RN Case Managers; to keep the organization of medical supplies up to date for business operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to learn about hospice supplies and their purposes
Interest in the medical field and opportunities for growth
Knowledge on hospice workflow and the medical field
Ability to communicate with diverse groups and medical staff
Ability to delegate complex tasks to the appropriate staff member
Experience in Microsoft Suite
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, GED, or 1+ years of similar work experience
Must possess organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
Must possess a reliable form of transportation
Must possess a valid Driver’s License with a clean record
Must possess auto insurance
Customer service experience
Prior experience working in the medical field, working with medical equipment, or knowledge of medical supplies and equipment preferred
Prior experience delivery driving preferred
Physical/Safety Requirements:
With assistance, incumbents must have the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and handle awkward sized/shaped durable medical equipment that weights between 90 lbs. and 120 lbs. Generally, this may occur 2-5 times per week
Utilizes appropriate PPE as needed
Comfortable driving in all weather conditions
Ability to sit, stand, be mobile and operate a vehicle for extended periods of time
Follow the designated plan of action in the event of a fire or other emergency
Strength to carry medical supplies equaling up to 75lbs
Follows health and safety protocols for transporting and caring for sterile medical equipment and supplies
Must be able to lift, kneel, squat, and carry equipment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, work- related stresses, and driving hazards. The individual may be required to drive to meetings with clients or health care professionals. The individual may be required to drive to patient’s homes. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.

The Medical Supply Tech may use this information to prepare medical supplies and equipment for drop off, to communicate patient needs to clients, CNAs, and RN Case Managers; to keep the organization of medical supplies up to date for business operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to learn about hospice supplies and their purposes
Interest in the medical field and opportunities for growth
Knowledge on hospice workflow and the medical field
Ability to communicate with diverse groups and medical staff
Ability to delegate complex tasks to the appropriate staff member
Experience in Microsoft Suite
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, GED, or 1+ years of similar work experience
Must possess organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
Must possess a reliable form of transportation
Must possess a valid Driver’s License with a clean record
Must possess auto insurance
Customer service experience
Prior experience working in the medical field, working with medical equipment, or knowledge of medical supplies and equipment preferred
Prior experience delivery driving preferred
Physical/Safety Requirements:
With assistance, incumbents must have the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and handle awkward sized/shaped durable medical equipment that weights between 90 lbs. and 120 lbs. Generally, this may occur 2-5 times per week
Utilizes appropriate PPE as needed
Comfortable driving in all weather conditions
Ability to sit, stand, be mobile and operate a vehicle for extended periods of time
Follow the designated plan of action in the event of a fire or other emergency
Strength to carry medical supplies equaling up to 75lbs
Follows health and safety protocols for transporting and caring for sterile medical equipment and supplies
Must be able to lift, kneel, squat, and carry equipment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, work- related stresses, and driving hazards. The individual may be required to drive to meetings with clients or health care professionals. The individual may be required to drive to patient’s homes. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
