Overview:

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking a Senior Health Physicist (I, II or III) Radiological Engineer to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS). 

The Senior Health Physicist (I, II, III) Radiological Engineer provides technical guidance in support of company radiological designs and modifications. Calculates, analyzes, establishes, and incorporates proper radiological protection controls to prevent or minimize adverse effects to onsite personnel, the surrounding public, and the environment.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of a Senior Health Physicist I (Grade 67):

Applies radiological engineering and health physics principles learned through formal education and comprehensive work experience for a moderate to large facility/project.

Provides comprehensive technical, operational, and regulatory guidance on the company’s Radiological Protection issues under broad supervision.

Performs standard to complex assessments, calculations, and/or monitoring to determine the proper radiological controls and shielding required to meet or exceed company/regulatory standards, while considering economic impacts. 

Prepares technical documentation and models to support calculations.

Manages (tracking, estimating, etc.) and communicates changes to assigned schedule.

Conducts peer review of tests and calculations for validity.

Prepares briefings, presentations, technical papers, reports, and lectures for department management.

Stays current on facilities, projects, processes, and regulatory procedures.

Works independently on a variety of complex assignments.

Serves as subject matter expert (SME) for radiation protection procedures that perform standard to complex radiological calculations, calibrations, data reviews, regulatory reviews, and assessments.

Represents the group in meetings based on familiarity with Code of Federal Regulations, DOE Orders, 5Q RadCon Manual and Site Engineering Standards.

Presents technical reports and lectures of assigned tasks to peers, facility personnel, and management.

Performs research and analyzes new equipment to develop cost-effective solutions and improvements.

Performs field walk downs as deemed necessary to ensure implementations are performed to calculated design.

Other duties as assigned.

Additional responsibilities of a Senior Health Physicist II (Grade 68):

Performs research and analyzes new equipment to developed cost-effective solutions and improvements.

Reviews and approves design drawings to ensure verified calculations have been included.

Functions as Radiological Engineer/Health Physicist lead or (SME) within company.

Performs hazard assessments by conducting engineering evaluations for projects deemed to have detrimental effects to the company if proper radiological controls are not implemented.

May guide less experienced professionals.

Addiitonal responsibilities of a Senior Health Physicist III (Grade 69):

Performs complex assessments, calculations, and/or monitoring to determine the proper radiological controls and shielding required to meet or exceed company/regulatory standards, while considering the economic impacts. 

Prepares technical documentation and models to support calculations.

Stays current on facilities, projects, processes, and regulatory procedures.

Serves as subject matter expert (SME) for radiation protection procedures that perform complex radiological calculations, calibrations, data reviews, regulatory reviews, and assessments.

Performs research and analyzes new equipment to developed cost-effective solutions and improvements.

This is a multi-level posting.  Candidate(s) selected to receive an offer will be offered the position level commensurate with their experience and qualifications.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering, health physics or applicable science or engineering discipline from an accredited college or university and relevant professional experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualification for a Senior Health Physicist I (Grade 67):

Thorough knowledge of health physics concepts, principles and techniques; general knowledge of related disciplines.

Working knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations, DOE Orders, and ANSI standards that provide guidance and requirements for radiation protection programs.

Familiarity with MCNP, SCALE, Origen ARP, MicroShield, HOTSPOT codes.

Additional preferred qualification for a Senior Health Physicist II and III (Grade 68 and Grade 69):

Masters of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering, Health Physics or related engineering or scientific discipline
