Responsibilities:

Laboratory Department

Our high-tech Laboratory has impressed many with its functionality: Our hematology section has a new automated track connecting cell counters and a new automated unit to make peripheral smears on cases requiring manual review. Our chemistry section has an expanded chemistry automation track with the capacity for dual automated chemistry analyzers and dual automated immunoassay instruments in addition to the sample handling unit. Our microbiology section has expanded and includes new quarters for the tuberculosis and fungus laboratories that comply with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention isolation requirements. Our transfusion service has expanded quarters with increased blood storage capacity and space for new automated instrumentation planned for the near future.

In this role you will receive and process all specimens in a timely manner according to priority according to regulatory and department protocols. Correctly identifies adequacy of specimens received for processing, and load specimens on analyzers and prepares reagents under the direction of a Medical Technologist. Your daily tasks include data entry of test requests, test information, and patient information into the computer in an accurate and timely manner. Correctly perform all functions relative to computer entry of patient information, transport files, work lists, test orders, and reporting of test results according to regulatory and department policies and procedures. Maintain proper patient identification in all work processes (specimen collection, specimen processing, computer test ordering, result retrieval, filing, etc).You will need to order and inventories supplies, stocks work area, and rotates stock as needed. We will help you correctly identifies patient, performs phlebotomy, and collects the appropriate specimens as needed according to department policies and procedures. Expectations are to adhere to all safety procedures and uses proper protocol for handling specimens in accordance with infection control policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Education Background Required:

High School Diploma/GED

Preferred:

AA degree or 24 college units in laboratory science courses.

Typing and Computer skills in a Windows environment.

Excellent organization skills, with passion for working in a medical laboratory setting.

High level of customer service.

Licensure/Certification:

Preferred: California Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT 1 or CPT 2).
