Overview:

FUJIFILM Cellular Dynamics, Inc. is recruiting an accomplished R & D Associate Director to work in our Madison, WI office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background and proven track-record in stem cell and developmental biology with a focus on human pluripotent stem cells and cell differentiation using 2D and 3D models. The candidate should be familiar with the published literature, have expertise using state-of-the-art methods and assays for cell characterization, and previous experience in supervising/mentoring scientists at different career levels. Qualified individuals must have high scientific standards, strong communication skills, and be able for creative thinking and scientific problem-solving that will contribute to the formulation of next-generation stem cell technologies, including future cell-based therapies. Building on its pioneering role in stem cell research, FCDI is a growing company that aspires to improve the quality of life through innovation and delivery of high-quality products and services. Essential Functions

Developing and optimizing robust and reproducible cell differentiation protocols, analytical methods, and other processes needed to convert human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) into cellular products and therapies. 

Working within a core   team and with collaborators to formulate cell differentiation protocols for different iPSC-derived cell types.

Managing research specialists/scientists, providing mentorship by assisting with experimental design & analysis, and fostering a collaborative team science approach. 

Providing direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance. 

Designing and executing experimental plans to achieve project goals in a timely fashion.

Writing protocols, technical reports, and SOPs, and developing appropriate documentation for processes. 

Participating in technology transfer of processes to the QC, process engineering, and cGMP manufacturing groups. 

Preparing and delivering presentations of projects and/or corporate results to large and diverse internal and external audiences. 

Other job functions as assigned. 

Required Qualifications

PhD or similar qualification in Stem Cell or Developmental Biology, Cell Biology/Cell Signaling, Biomedical Engineering or a closely related fields with proven experience

10 years of relevant experience in stem cell biology  

Demonstrated experience leading a team, including developing and administering schedules, performance requirements and budgeting.  

Experience working on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors. 

Demonstrated proficiency with cell culture, flow cytometry, molecular biology methods, and next-generation sequencing. Demonstrated capabilities in human iPSC or human ESC culture preferred.  

Demonstrated work ethic, initiative, the ability to multi-task, and intellectual curiosity to new technical skills and scientific problem-solving. 

Able to work at a computer for extended periods of time. 

Able to provide supervision in the laboratory as needed. 

Able to wear standard laboratory PPE. 

Occasional travel is required. 

Occasional weekend work is required.
