Estimate Pay: $78.27/hour. This position will be an Independent Contract under Fidelity
Partners.
Period of Performance: 01 January 2025 - 30 December 2030.
Working Hours
The Optometrist will normally work Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays), normally between the hours of 7:30am 4:00pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. A monthly schedule will be agreed upon after award by mutual agreement of all parties. This schedule is subject to change to meet the needs of the institution. Working hours will not exceed 40 hours in any given week. No overtime is authorized.
Summary of Duties
The Optometrist will provide Services for the prison population at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Fort Dix by performing eye exams as requested, diagnosis of eye conditions, removal of foreign objects from the eye, tonometry exams and recommendations for treatment and follow-up care. Additional duties/responsibilities are listed below.
Qualifications for the Optometrist:
Hold a diploma from an accredited program and must possess 2,000 hours (1 year) experience in Optometry.
Hold a current license to practice Optometry and shall be licensed in one of the 50 U.S. States or U.S. Territories.
Any Optometrist performing services shall apply for clinical privileges at the FCI-Fort Dix. A complete privilege packet must be submitted within 30 days of the Bureau of Prisons request.
Must have the ability to work with the Adults in Custody population from a variety of cultural, regional, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
Be Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certified though the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
Copies of all certification and training are required to be submitted with the resume.
Attire
The Optometrist is required to wear appropriate professional attire at all times. This typically consists of medical scrub type uniforms or professional dress attire. Jeans (of any color), T-shirts, sandals (of any type), tank tops, and sweatpants/shirts are not considered appropriate professional attire.
Duties and Responsibilities
Evaluation of patients as referred by the medical staff.
Providing legible written reports on all patients evaluated, to include but not limited toEye exams as requested
Diagnosis of eye conditions
Removal of foreign objects from the eye
Physical findings
Tonometry exams
Recommendations for treatment and follow-up care
Prescribing corrective lenses/frames as appropriate
Fitting of eyeglasses and adjustment/repair of frames
Individualized adjustment of exam equipment as needed
Contractor must complete a minimum of 20 scheduled exams per eight session day
Utilize the BEMR to document the eye exam.
Provide phone or virtual consultation, as needed with Government employees of the institution regarding Adults in Custody's Optometry cases.
