VHB North Carolina's Transportation Design practice is on the lookout for a passionate and talented Transportation / Roadway Engineer to join our dynamic Transportation team. With opportunities available in both our vibrant Raleigh and Charlotte offices, this role offers an exciting chance to engage with a team recognized for its innovative solutions and impactful work.
As part of VHB, you'll have the opportunity to work on multi-modal projects across North Carolina, from highways and interchanges to trail and bikeway designs, which are a testament to our approach to provide infrastructure designs for all communities and modes of travel. You'll work alongside experts in diverse disciplines, gaining invaluable exposure to a wide array of projects varying in size and scope, all while helping to shape the future of transportation in North Carolina.

Responsibilities
Design transportation improvements for roadway, intersection, trail, bike / ped, and interchange design; analyze/evaluate traffic improvements; support traffic/safety studies
Development of geometric layout and design packages, utility coordination, signing and marking, and maintenance of traffic plans
Prepare design plans per NCDOT and AASHTO design guidelines
Prepare Engineering cost estimates and quantity calculations
Develop 3D Models of proposed designs utilizing Bentley Open Roads software
Conduct field reviews and document existing and as-built roadway conditions
Serve as Task Lead and Deputy PM in Training
Skills and Attributes
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Self-motivated
Ability to think critically
Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Excel in working in a team environment
Enthusiasm to learn and the ability to take responsibility
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
5-8 years of transportation design experience required
8+ years of transportation design experience preferred
NCDOT and local municipality experience is a plus with an understanding of NCDOT design criteria and plans development guidelines
Experience with MicroStation and Bentley Open Roads is required
PE registration in North Carolina is required
