Summary:

Eligible for a $2,500 Sign On Bonus for a Two Year Commitment 

This position is as an office nurse to support our geriatrics program at nursing homes in Midland and Gladwin. Travel required 2-3 days per week between those locations. 

Under nursing or medical supervision, performs a variety of routine or advanced nursing tasks in the care and treatment of patients in a practice environment. This position requires the ability to work and collaborate effectively with physicians, midlevel providers, licensed nurses and ancillary staff to affect quality patient care. Activities include providing professional nursing care, treatment, patient assessment, assisting with medical procedures, performing simple lab procedures and related documentation, referrals, coding and computer knowledge. Interacts with patients and/or their family to render advice, interpret reports and/or test results and to provide education. Implements and adheres to administrative objectives and policies. This position provides clinical as well as clerical support for the practice. As the primary contact person for the practice, demonstrates respect, kindness, compassion, courteousness and professionalism to patients, families and referral sources. Performs other diverse duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

(25%)* Prepares patient for provider encounter, obtains specimens if applicable, assists with procedures, schedules tests and referrals, and educates patient.  (25%)* Triages all calls, schedules daily urgent/emergent add-ons, receives and relays test results, processes medication refills, supports, directs and refers patients for consults and/or testing and insurance pre-certification and documentation.   (25%)* Systematically organizes job functions by planning and prioritizing. Adheres to deadlines and achieves productivity.   (25%)* Schedules patient appointments, reviews patient file and lab reports, prints lab reports, face sheets and encounter forms.   OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains a high level of confidentiality and ensures patient’s rights in accordance with proper procedures and in compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act).   Meets department standards by working relationships and personal conduct. Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.   Meets health and safety requirements with work practices.   Adjusts and reacts positively to changes in work environment and assignments.  Meets standard for continuing education and licensure as established by licensing agency.   Performs other duties as assigned.   MyMichigan Health is a technology driven organization and employees need to demonstrate competency in Microsoft® Windows.   Employees may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.

Certifications and Licensures:

BLS - Basic Life Support Required      Equivalent Experience - Within 1 month of hire or transfer FINGERPRINTING - Fingerprinting Required       LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse Required

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS Knowledge of nursing skills as normally acquired through two (2) years experience working in a medical office or similar setting.   Experience in hospice and long term care preferred.   Written and interpersonal skills need to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.   Answers the telephone in a timely, courteous and professional manner.   Demonstrates ability and willingness to work as a team member.   Demonstrates a commitment to the customer's (internal and external) needs consistent with the overall mission, policies and procedures.  PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.   Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.  Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.   Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).  Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.   Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.  Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.   Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.  Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.  May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.   Physical Demand Level: Medium.  Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
