Position Description:

Are you ready to be at the forefront of revolutionizing medical device manufacturing? As a Controls Engineer within our Automation team, you'll be working on-site at our global headquarters, pioneering cutting-edge machines, collaborating across departments, and leading the way in cost reduction while optimizing manufacturing processes. It's your chance to make an enduring impact on the future of healthcare.  

Key Responsibilities: 

Engineering Expertise: Successfully apply electrical engineering principles, including electrical schematic design, component selection and panel design. Design and draft pneumatic diagrams and select components for automated equipment. Identify, select and program Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) control systems. Design, configure and program robotics, vision and motion systems. Design and troubleshoot safety devices, systems and safety Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). The Controls Engineer will oversee the entire software lifecycle in a regulated environment. 

Problem-Solving: Collaborate with production and maintenance teams, assist in troubleshooting automated equipment, and provide feedback to improve processes and equipment. 

Communication and Collaboration: Understand and translate stakeholder requirements into technical specifications. Create software design specifications based on user requirements and equipment designs. 

Documentation and Technical Writing: Draft maintenance manuals and software design specifications to ensure that quality standards are being met with new and existing equipment. 

Performance Objectives:

Within your first 30 days: 

Complete all Applied Learning foundational courses with a passing grade of 95% or above, demonstrating rapid integration into company processes.

Participate in team meetings and operations, contributing valuable insights and ideas to team discussions.

Familiarize yourself with Applied Medical’s operations and select processes.

Assist the maintenance and production teams with troubleshooting equipment.

Within 60 days:   

Exhibit a strong understanding of the team’s processes and projects.

Exhibit experience programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI).

Exhibit experience with component selection and working with pneumatics, sensors and motors.

Take on at least one project that requires low to moderate guidance.

Within 90 days to one year: 

Exhibit experience working with advanced systems such as robotics, vision systems and motion control systems.

Develop interpersonal connections and relationships with others to effectively accomplish project objectives and deliverables.

Lead moderate to complex projects with minimal guidance or direction.

Manage a variety of projects on your own while supporting entry-level engineers.

Position Requirements:

Experience designing electrical and pneumatic controls systems.

Experience programming HMIs and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).

Understanding of electrical assembly and wiring practices.

Knowledge of electrical and safety standards.

Experience troubleshooting automated equipment.

Experience working with sensors, pneumatics, safety components/systems, motion controls, vision and robotics. 

Ability to integrate various components and systems into a cohesive and reliable automated solution, which includes interfacing with mechanical systems, robotics, vision systems, and other peripherals.

Willingness to learn and grow.

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering.
