MJK Connections is working with Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union to hire this exciting Mortgage Loan Officer in Durango, CO.

This person will be a self-Sourced Mortgage Loan Originator who originates, reviews and evaluates mortgage loan applications and make recommendations; counsels members regarding appropriate financial planning and practices; makes certain that members receive superior quality of service in line with the "close and caring touch" described in SLFCU's mission statement.

Job Duties:

Assist in growing the credit union membership by self-sourcing mortgage applicants by working closely with referral partners such as Realtor, Builder, and other trade organizations.

Interview and process mortgage loan requests by appointment, web application, phone, and walk- in. Analyze supporting documentation (e.g. purchase agreements, warranty deeds, real estate contracts, appraisals, surveys and title policies). Evaluate credit worthiness and utilize credit reports to verify accuracy of the loan application.

Provide a superior member experience by:

Actively listening to and assessing the needs of the member

Explaining the features and benefits of targeted products and services

Offering targeted solutions to meet the members needs

Demonstrate proficiency of all mortgage loan products with the exclusion of construction loans.

Educate and advise members on such matters as appropriate financial planning, policies and rates. Calculate loan payments and determine loan to value (LTV) and best means of financing. Make recommendations regarding approval/denial of loan requests.

Strive to exceed the Credit Unions service and sales goals through the development and maintenance of member relationships. Develop these associations further through cold calls and follow-up. Cross- sell consumer and commercial products to members when appropriate.

Assist the Mortgage Loan Manager and Marketing Department with Select Employer Group (SEG) development.

Maintain mutually beneficial partnerships with industry related representatives to enhance the member experience and provide for future business opportunities.

Meet or exceed annual department origination goals as set by VP Lending and Management.

Complete all steps required to register (and renew yearly) with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS). Ensure all personal data is kept up to date with the NMLS.

Participate in SLFCU mortgage seminars, Realtor on Duty and CU Realty functions, and other events as requested.

Perform other duties as requested by management.

Requirements

Experience and Knowledge:

Minimum three years experience originating/underwriting and approving mortgage loans.

Exhibits ability to compare SLFCU products to products in the marketplace and cross-sell effectively.

Demonstrates good record recommending loans for approval/denial.

Possesses a good understanding of laws and regulations governing lending and financial institutions, as well as knowledge of SLFCU lending guidelines.

Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; demonstrates ability to learn and effectively utilize in-house programs and third-party mortgage lending software.

Thorough knowledge of the products and services offered by the Credit Union. Prior experience with mortgage products desired.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in business or related field and/or successful completion of a specialized course or study in real estate desired or equivalent experience.

Interpersonal Skills:

Possesses exceptional interpersonal skills. Demonstrates daily the Credit Union's commitment to maintaining a close and caring touch with its members.

Able to formulate creative solutions that strengthen the Credit Union's relationship with members and business partners.

Demonstrates strong relationship management skills.

Ability to work in a cooperative team environment.

Communication:

Demonstrates strong verbal/written communication and presentation skills; able to communicate lending-related topics clearly and succinctly to others.

Other Skills:

Demonstrated ability to ensure that documentation produced is accurate and meets all organizational guidelines and policies.

Must pass requirements for SAFE Act.

Constantly strives to maintain product knowledge through continued education and research. Able to attend schools, seminars, or other types of training to further expand and enhance knowledge base.

Possesses strong business judgment; demonstrates ability to understand and evaluate complex tax returns, both personal and corporate.

Understands and applies team and department "best practices" and continually works for process and service improvements.
