Job Description
The purchasing agent is a crucial role in our supply chain, responsible for managing all aspects of material planning and purchasing to support our marine manufacturing operations. Responsible for raw material and part forecasting, purchase order placement and maintenance, and order management to sustain optimal inventory levels. The ideal candidate will have supply chain and purchasing experience in a production environment, analytical and critical thinking skills, and strong interpersonal skills to successfully negotiate and build key relationships with suppliers. This is a 100% in-office position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and prepare material consumption according to supplier lead times
Entering purchase orders into ERP system (Epicor 11/Kinetic)
Communicate with suppliers regularly to follow up on open orders, forecasts, and past due orders
Proactively assess and manage supply chain risks, implementing strategies to mitigate part shortages and stockouts and acting with a sense of urgency to ensure production all materials needed to build boats
Maintain excellent relationships and communication with suppliers and internal departments
Assisting and coordinating with suppliers to correct discrepancies on packing slips for the receiving teams
Working with accounting on price checks and proofs of delivery
Inventory control duties: cycle counting, purchase order receipt accuracy, tracking returned material inventory
Ability to make sound judgements and take the initiative to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and make decisions/choices within the functional area of responsibility with minimal direct supervision
