What You Will Do

As a Controls Professional Engineer, you will be responsible for the design of control system details, instrumentation configuration, preparation for implementation, implementation, testing, documentation, and training.

A Typical Day at Prime Controls

Works with clients and engineering firms to gather information for design requirements and limiting conditions. Reviews standard documentation, local and national codes, and industry requirements for parameters and limiting factors.

Provides input to clients for system functionality and requirements.

Visits sites to assess accuracy of drawings, site obstacles, and hazards.

Provides oversight to Engineers-In-Training and Designers and certifies drawings.

May propose equipment and evaluate vendors and requirements.

Analyzes equipment sizing and power requirements for power studies and reports.

Works with Designers to design and analyze lighting, grounding, code requirements, and calculations.

Produces coordination studies to analyze load, short circuit/fault, and breakers.

Produces arc flash studies for operator clothing and safety protection.

Coordinates with power utilities and local code enforcement to make provisions for necessary power requirements.

Designs cable and conduit schedule for power, and motor control centers.

Develops major equipment quotes with specifications for review and use by customers.

Works with little supervision from Project Managers to ensure customer satisfaction and cost containment.

Supports sub-contractors with answers to questions on project design.

Resolves conflicts with clients involving safety requirements and change orders.

Assists in mentoring Project Engineers.

Typically works on the design and post-design of 4 to 5 projects simultaneously.

What You Will Bring

The Basic

5 years of Electrical Design experience in the archetectural, engineering, or construction (AEC) industry of similar field

Professional Engineering License in the State of Texas

Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, related Bachelor’s discipline, related degree from a Technical College or equivalent Industrial controls experience

The Preferred

6+ years of experience in architectural, engineering or construction (AEC) industry or similar field

Proficiency with AutoCAD - Autodesk software

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work near moving mechanical parts and be exposed to a risk of electrical shock. At times, the employee will be required to wear PPE (i.e. hard hat, safety boots, hearing protection, eye protection, etc.).

At times, the employee will be working in an environment with significant noise.

They need to be able to climb ladders and step on platforms and equipment. They need to be able to maneuver (stoop, crawl, bend) around obstacles to reach equipment for testing and troubleshooting.
