An exciting new opportunity has arisen within our Financial Services section for an Assistant Accountant, based at our central headquarters in Sheffield.

Assistant Accountant
Contract: Permanent
Salary: Grade 6 (£29,777 – £32,076) (pay award pending)
Hours: Part-time - 22.2 (0.6 FTE) Hours per week (Flexi Time)
Work Pattern: Days to be confirmed/agreed
Location: Central Headquarters, Eyre Street, Sheffield/Agile

The overall purpose of the role is to support the team in proactively contributing towards the efficient and effective delivery of South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue’s strategic objectives and priorities. The main element of the role is to be responsible for the preparation and monitoring of cashflows and treasury management, accounting for fixed assets and capital spend, producing working papers to support the monthly financial reporting and statutory accounts and auditors.

The successful candidate will join an established team which consists of Accountancy, Financial Systems, Payments and Revenues and Payroll and Pensions. Other benefits of working within the service include; a cycle 2 work scheme, a free on site gym, enhanced maternity and paternity schemes and the opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme, along with a generous holiday entitlement and flexible working policies.

To be considered for this role you will have previous experience working within a finance environment and have a good knowledge of financial procedures.

You must be able to self-motivate, plan, prioritise and be qualified at AAT or equivalent.

Closing date for applications is 12.00 hours on Monday 30 September 2024.
Interviews will be held week commencing 17 and 18 October 2024.

New starters will commence on the bottom of the salary grade and will receive increases to the top of the grade on an incremental basis. We offer 28 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus Bank Holidays. Annual leave increases after 5 years’ service to 32 days, followed by an extra day a year up to a maximum of 37 days. We also operate a generous flexi time attendance scheme.

Other benefits include; a cycle 2 work scheme, a free on site gym, enhanced maternity and paternity schemes and the opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.
