Job Description

Pay Rate: $39.88 per hour.

Position Purpose: 

The Power Plant Operator 2 adjusts controls to generate specified electrical power, or to regulate the flow of power between generating stations and substations. The Power Plant Operator 2 controls and maintains auxiliary equipment, such as pumps, fans, compressors, condensers, feed water heaters, filters and chlorinators, to supply water, fuel, lubricants, air and auxiliary power. The Power Plant Operator 2 controls the generator output to match the phase, frequency, and voltage of electricity supplied to panels. The Power Plant Operator makes needed adjustments or minor repairs, such as tightening leaking glands and pipe joints. The Power Plant Operator 2 must however report any major repairs that are needed right away to ensure that nothing stops the operations of the plant.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

Operate, control, and monitor power generation, auxiliary, and balance of plant electrical loads, equipment and systems.

Provides leadership and directing in response to alarms and abnormal conditions and leads emergency response actions.

Evaluates the operation, and performance of Power Plant facilities, processes, systems and equipment.

Reviews designs and constructed facilities and makes recommendations for operational improvements.

Complete reports which document plant status, equipment, operating data and operational events.

Collect data on unplanned outages and make recommendations to minimize the probability of similar events.

Ensures relevant equipment and processes are well maintained and functioning properly through oversight.

Oversee/Perform cleanup and housekeeping tasks for work area, tools, equipment, facilities, and grounds.

Maintain proper operational and maintenance documents and records.

Assure work is performed in a safe and professional manner by following all corporate and regulatory policies, procedures, and emergency response procedures.

Operates equipment and processes manually and through instrument control panels. 

Work weekends, and holidays. Respond to emergencies, work additional hours to complete required tasks as/and when needed.

Proficient in the operation and use of various hand and power tools.

Carries out other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

Work is performed both inside and outside with exposure to all kinds of weather conditions. 

Employee may be occasionally exposed to some noise, silica, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, greases, oils, electrical energy, solvents and vibration. 

Employee may work on slippery/uneven surfaces, around machinery with moving parts, moving objects/vehicles, ladder/scaffolding, below ground and may be exposed to water or other liquid materials.

Maintain a high level of focus on health, safety and environment, ensuring safety within all activities.
