Purpose:

Are you an attorney with at least three years of litigation experience? Do you enjoy supporting the implementation of business strategy? Do you have a passion for serving as a trusted advisor? Do you excel at building relationships?

ARAG is hiring a corporate counsel! This person will provide legal services as a practicing attorney on behalf of the corporation and manage relationships with outside counsel. Being an attorney with a JD is required for this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Draft, review and revise contracts for outside vendors, plan sponsors and others as needed, includes providing guidance on relevant documentation and reporting on potential risks in a contract.

Resolve claims, consumer complaints and disputes prior to litigation.

Oversee and manage litigation matters, including working with outside counsel, developing litigation strategies, and ensuring timely resolution of disputes.

Provide legal support in the review and resolution of insurance claims, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Ensure the company’s operations comply with all relevant state and federal laws, including insurance regulations and corporate governance requirements.

Author, develop, implement, and update external facing legal documents to be used in DIY document assembly software system.

Provide legal research and advice regarding product, speed to market, and distribution as it relates to insurance/services product placement.

Author pilot opportunities, position papers, articles, blogs and other publications about legal plans and other topics as needed by the business.

Partner with appropriate stakeholders to gain an understanding of their needs, challenges, and expectations.

Provide education to appropriate stakeholders on legal issues impacting their functional responsibilities.

Provide general legal counsel to organizational stakeholders as needed and appropriate.

Advise General Counsel on a regular basis of legal developments within the business, providing pertinent detail prior to critical management meetings. 

Serve as a positive role model by representing the ARAG at its Best.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Knowledge

Solid knowledge of contract and general corporate law required.

Solid knowledge of litigation management.

General knowledge of relevant insurance department regulations.

Skills

Excellent verbal and written skills. Ability to present information in formal and informal settings.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and online research.

Strong analytical and strategic planning skills.

Ability to work and maintain a highly confidential working environment.

Ability to function in a fast-paced environment, flexible with changing priorities.

Highly organized and detail oriented

Ability to interface and work collaboratively with all levels of the organization

Strong customer orientation

Interpersonal and relationship building skills

Ability to perform factual and legal investigation

Ability to perform legal research

Education – Juris Doctorate degree.

Experience – Minimum of 3-5 years of experience required;

Contract experience required.

Litigation experience required.

Insurance experience preferred.

Certifications, Licenses, Associations, etc. – Licensed to practice in the state of Iowa.
