Teaching Assistant – Behavioural Support

Do you have experience supporting individuals who display challenging behaviours?
Are you passionate about being a positive role model to pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds?
Interested in a weekly rate of pay from £425 to £500 per week?
Seeking CPD training opportunities?
Company pension scheme & other additional benefits
Looking for a challenge?
Considering a career in the education sector?
Vision for Education are actively recruiting individuals with a background in supporting adults or children who display social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD) in the Cardiff area.

We work closely with a pupil referral unit (PRU) who require the support of a teaching assistant to work alongside pupils on both a 1:1 and small group basis.

Often the pupils are labelled with being the ‘naughty’ children which often isn’t the case. They normally come from very disadvantaged / challenging backgrounds and school is their safe space where influences like you can really make a positive difference!

The school are actively looking for someone who is interested in helping to steer these kids in the right direction and be a positive role model to them. It would actively require you to build positive relationships and de-escalate behaviours before they arise. If you can see something is agitating the pupils, the school are happy for you to take them away from the situation to help them cool off and get them re-engaged in the classwork afterwards.

It will require you to think on your feet, often using positive reinforcements to get the most of out the pupils. A team teach qualification or equivalent would be beneficial for this role, but not essential as we also provide this training!

What will the role involve?

Working with primary / secondary aged pupils
The role will involve building strong and trusting relationships
Be required to work either with small groups or on a 1:1 basis
Being resilient and support individuals through difficult situations
Work alongside and support the class teacher to assess the needs of pupils and support pupils’ learning both in and out of class
Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities
De-escalate and use positive reinforcements to engage and promote learning within the classroom
The ideal candidate will have one or more of the following:

Ideally you will have previous experience working with pupils with challenging behaviour and social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH).
A Team-Teach qualification or relevant qualification (e.g. PROACT-SCIP/MAPA) are highly desirable, but not essential.
An understanding of the importance of maintaining a stimulant yet fun learning environment.
Experience supporting primary or secondary aged pupils
An understanding and flexible nature is essential, alongside being proactive, empathetic, engaging and creative.
Be patient, engaging and calm when under pressure.
Knowledge of the National Curriculum
Be registered (or willing to register) with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
The school are known to place individuals on a permanent basis, once you have proven your hard work, reliability and dedication to the school, so if this is something you are looking for, I would encourage you to apply!

We welcome all applicants from support worker, care, sports and education backgrounds!

If you aren’t from these backgrounds and still have an interest and feel that you would be a strong applicant, then please still feel free to apply!

Should you require any additional information regarding this role, or to apply for the position, please contact Chris on the number below or send a copy of your CV through for consideration.

I look forward to hearing from you!
