G&A Partners' client is currently seeking a Surgery Scheduler to join its team in Houston,TX.

Summary

Surgery Scheduler arranges surgeries and diagnostic tests with area hospitals and diagnostic facilities based on physician/patient preferences and insurance plan requirements.  Obtains second opinions and medical clearance as needed.  Arranges patient education and medical clearance appointments as needed. Creates referral, tasks, post op appointments and obtains pre-certification as required. 

Responsibilities:

Clerical

Schedules surgery and tests ordered by providers. Schedules according to physician/patient/insurance company requirements Ordering any special equipment necessary.

Gives general instructions and explains procedures that are scheduled with the patients and provides the patient with written instructions including date, time and facility directions for the procedure that is scheduled

Coordinates patient care with facilities, radiology, anesthesia and the patient’s primary care physician as required.

Provides patient teaching on surgical procedures; pre and postoperative care via verbal and written communication

Discusses surgery conflicts and overloads with physicians

Updates patient information materials and coordinates educational materials for hospital and facility use

Loads all surgeries into EMR and miscellaneous platforms filling in appropriate fields

Enters surgery in physician calendars as required

Completes necessary forms and paperwork to process and schedule tests and surgeries

Requests surgical assistance as required by provider

Creates referrals and collects as required for surgeries scheduled

Obtains precertification as required for outside tests/surgeries scheduled as needed

Sends all required paperwork to facilities prior to procedure/surgery

Answers phones, screens calls, responds to voice mails, takes messages and provides information to patients, vendors and customers internal and external

Core

Takes initiative and anticipates the need of co-workers

Adheres to Bloodborne Pathogen Standards

Applies HIPAA rules in regards to privacy/release of medical information and works in a confidential matter concerning the physicians, clinic policies and procedures, and maintains patient confidentiality

Adheres to OSHA guidelines

Qualifications:

Education & Certification:

High school graduation or GED/BLS Certification

Experience:

Minimum of three years medical or hospital office experience; preferably surgery scheduling

Must have previous expereince with direct patient interaction

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge:

Knowledge of the practice’s policies and procedures.

Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance practices.

Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation for effective communication.

Knowledge of computer programs and applications.

Skills:

Skill in using office equipment and in handling paperwork and filing adequately.

Skill in handling incoming phone calls and triaging appropriately.

Skill in written and verbal communication.

Skill in gathering, interpreting, and reporting insurance information.

Abilities:

Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff.

Ability to interpret and understand insurance benefits and reimbursement.

Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.

Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.

Ability to communicate clearly.

Ability to work with little supervision.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and providers.

Ability to accept direction and guidance from Practice Administrator/Team Lead

Ability to exercise independent judgment in completing job duties
