Overview:

 Schultz Veterinary Clinic is seeking an experienced full-time Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our team!  We are also seeking an LVT for Urgent Care, general practice and Saturday mornings. Urgent Care will receive an additional 30% in hourly pay! Open since 1974, Schultz Veterinary Clinic is a 5 doctor practice that sees small animals.  We offer a large array of services including: ultrasound, cold laser therapy, a surgical laser, and more. We foster an environment where technicians can broaden their skillset and knowledge.

We utilize our techs as much as possible and encourage them to use the skills they’ve learned in tech school. Technician duties include but are not limited to: phlebotomy, tech appointments, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, and other procedures and therapies.

We have a lot of great in-house lab equipment including the new Imagyst.  The Imagyst is a new artificially intelligent cytology reader that can interpret ear cytologies, fecals, urine samples, and fine needle aspirates for you!

We are looking for someone that is open to sharing their skills, learning new ones, and focused on growth in their veterinary career.

   

Location: 2770 Bennett Rd Okemos, MI 48864

Clinic Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 7a-5:30p, Wednesday 7a-7p, Friday 7a-4p.  Closed Saturday/Sunday Compensation:  $25-28/hr-commensurate with experience Benefits:

PTO - 80 hrs

Full-time team members will be awarded additional PTO based on their years of service.

Vacation Pay- 48 hours to apply towards 6 recognized holidays (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day)

*The vacation PTO hours can be used at the team member’s discretion to cover the actual vacation as observed by the hospital or other absences with approval from their Manager.

Responsibilities:

Major Duties:

Our Veterinary Technicians are responsible for in-patient medical care- administer medications, assist or perform treatments, diagnostics & monitoring, place IV catheters, draw blood, run lab tests, administer IV fluids, cleaning, feeding, and walking patients as needed.

Anesthesia/Surgery – Our Veterinary Technicians prep, induce, maintain, and monitor during procedures. They also recover patients, and clean/maintain/sterilize anesthesia equipment and surgical instruments.

Dentistry- Our Veterinary Technicians provide patient dental care, ultrasonic cleaning and polishing, and assist doctors with dental surgery.

Radiology - Our Veterinary Technicians position patients and assist with radiographs and sending radiographs via email.

Laboratory duties- Our Veterinary Technicians are responsible for collecting, preparing, & running or submitting samples for requested tests; reading and recording results when indicated (fecals, urine samples, Ear cytology, etc) when requested by doctor.

Preparing invoices, discharge instructions, and client informational tools

Client communication for hospitalized patients - give patient updates, discharge instructions, and provide follow up for certain hospital patients.

Client medical demonstrations / education - teach/educate clients on at-home care procedures.

Veterinary Technician appointments- blood draws for therapeutic monitoring / screening tests, bandage changes, post-op checks, suture removals, anal gland expressions and nail trims.

Clinic technician- checking patients in/out, taking history and vitals, assisting doctor with outpatient appointments, input obtained data into patient medical record and ensure a smooth and timely flow of outpatient appointments from check-in to discharge. Technicians are also responsible for preparing, cleaning and restocking exam rooms as needed.

Assist with reception/front desk duties as needed- answering phones, booking appointments, admit/discharge patients.

Assist in training and mentoring new team members.

Assist with inventory control – informing inventory manager when products are getting low or are out of stock, unpacking, and restocking drug & medical supplies.

Preparing prescriptions - dispense medications & medication refills.

Qualifications:

Physical Requirements:

The veterinary technician must have the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds by themselves and over 50 pounds with a coworker.

The veterinary technician must be able to endure sitting, standing and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods of time.

The veterinary technician must possess sufficient ambulatory skills to perform duties while in a hospital environment.

The veterinary technician must be able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high.

The veterinary technician will be routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances.

The veterinary technician must have good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment.
