Ambulance Paramedic

Position Summary:

Within the Covenant Health EMS System, the Paramedic is a public safety professional that responds to medical emergencies and other medical transport needs in pre-hospital and interfacility settings. Upon arrival, the paramedic performs triage, initial survey, provides emergency care through careful assessment of the patient and recognizes injuries and illnesses. The paramedic shall also gain knowledge of pre-existing medical conditions, previous medications, medical preference, and identification of the patient.

Responsibilities:

Renders necessary emergency care for acute illness or injury, including medical emergencies, traumatic injury, behavioral health emergencies, or other associated care of chronic comorbid conditions.

Utilizes EMS telecommunications for coordination and information exchange with EMS dispatchers, medical facilities, online medical control, and other system users, and shall conduct radio transmissions appropriately with regard for rules, regulations, and procedures.

Reports essential information concerning the patient, the patient's medical condition and treatment to the medical personnel who assume responsibility for continuing care of the patient.

Ensure Patient Care Reports (PCRs) and other documentation is complete and timely, as per company policy

Adhere to the Covenant Health EMS dress code while on duty.

Clean and maintain vehicles and facilities daily, including being responsible for routine daily maintenance checks and record results on the vehicle maintenance check list; properly cleaning and restocking assigned vehicles after each call; refueling vehicle (at the designated service stations) after each call or when tank is less than 1/2 full.

Facilitate scheduling needs, equipment and supply maintenance, and other daily operational support functions as assigned by the EMS Manager and EMS Director (Supply counts, vehicle maintenance/record keeping, making a schedule, etc.)

Ensure daily narcotic logs are in order and vehicle checks (on-board supplies/equip.) are completed.

Support other programs and divisions within the Covenant EMS System as able.

Remain up to date on all regulatory training (clinical, non-clinical, CME, etc.) and ensure that all certifications are uploaded into the appropriate systems.  Coordinate and work with the EMS Manager and/or EMS Medical Director to develop specific and deliberate training plans as needed.

Complete all mandatory Covenant Health training, mandatory Covenant Health EMS in-service training, as well as additional independent training to meet State of Tennessee minimal continuing education requirements.

Prepare reports and manage projects as assigned by the EMS Manager.

Coordinate with EMS Manager, the EMS Director, and the Covenant Health IT Team to facilitate and manage all aspects of IT including, but not limited to computer maintenance, any and all pertinent systems account setup for team members.

Responsible for complying with all local, state, and federal employment laws (i.e., Americans with Disability Act, Affirmative Action Plan, etc.).

Local travel required.

Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

Minimum Experience:

Two (2) years of experience in EMS or in another healthcare setting preferred.

Licensure Requirement:

Must have and maintain a TN Paramedic certification. ACLS and BLS required. Employee must have a valid driver’s license and state mandated minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
