I am actively recruiting for a Safety Manager to start a 6-month contract with a leading Central Government organisation in the Defence sector. This is a hybrid position split between remote working and being onsite in the South West of England. The role is inside IR35 paying up to £520/day. BPSS is required for this role, and you must be eligible to undergo SC Clearance whilst onsite.

The Safety Manager is responsible for the development, operation and continuous improvement of the Safety Management Plan (SMP) which is the policy and procedures for the safety management of all Products, Systems and Services (PSS) that have the potential to cause direct or indirect harm to individuals, property or the environment.

The Safety Manager is responsible for the development, operation and continuous improvement of the Safety Case including:

  • Leading the implementation of the Safety Management Plan;
  • Safety target & criteria;
  • Confirming change has gone through due process and governance;
  • Safety process and associated documentation;
  • Promotion of Safety Culture;
  • Reporting on Safety performance;
  • Ensuring the organisation's Safety Management System is implemented;
  • Producing and managing safety documentation in preparation for the SCB and SB meetings
  • Quorate member of Safety Management Review Panels for Safety Cases.

The postholder will regularly interact at all levels in the organisation and need to be able to communicate effectively with everyone from Subject Matter Experts in teams through team leaders to senior managers.

The Safety Manager will be the Subject Matter Expert for the Safety Management Plan and will be the first point of contact for SMP related queries, concerns or issues. The Safety Manager will regularly review any changes to safety legislation and regulation or any other safety artefacts pertinent to the Product(s) and will share this information with the organisation.
