Responsibilities:

Purpose of Your Position

To ensure, in collaboration with the Team Leader, that each Neighborhood provide safe, appropriate and goal-directed care and to provide support, supervision and guidance to direct nursing staff. To ensure communication regarding communication of resident status is consistent, objective and current. To assess resident care issues   and collaborate with physicians in emergent and acute circumstances. To effectively maintain resident and family centered care and communicate need for follow-up as appropriate. To seek guidance regarding resident care, employee relations and /or family issues to Team Leader, Administrator, Director of Nursing Service, Administrator on call, and Medical Director, and others as appropriate.

Demonstrates professionalism and flexibility in all situations and encounters.

Represents the Pediatrics Center knowledgably and with dignity when interacting with visitors or in the community.

Creates and maintains an atmosphere of safety, warmth and support which encourages residents/families and staff to achieve their full potential.

Provides staff with supervision, support and guidance necessary to implement nursing theory and practice and provide safe, appropriate goal directed care.

Performs clinical evaluation for the physician on site and reports clinical findings for medical decisions.

Guides and supervises the nursing staff in the delivery of nursing care, to ensure continuity of care and to evaluate the quality of total care provided on the evening and night tours of duty. Provides accurate, objective and thorough endorsement of resident status to oncoming management and to clinical status meetings when scheduled

Initiates investigations of care issues and family concerns in a timely and thorough manner. This includes, but is not limited to, incident reports, medication errors and abuse and neglect reporting

Interprets policies and procedures for nursing staff and other services. Provides education and training as needed regarding policy and procedure.

Provides input to Team Leaders on a regular basis regarding employee performance on their shift, and intervenes as necessary to provide coaching, counseling and/or progressive discipline .When providing same follows all rules of regulations of the Center, the SDOH and the 1199 bargaining unit.

Takes responsibility to arrange coverage for scheduled shift if unable to provide coverage as planned.

Displays flexibility and willingness to assure house coverage is provided when requested.

Maintains accurate and clear records regarding changes in shift assignment in accordance with rules of the Center and the 199 bargaining unit contract

Uses SBAR and other tools, such as 24 hours report to objectively document resident/family concerns

Manages night medication cabinet and seeks solutions to obtain medication for residents if needed.

Attends management meetings as required, this includes Operations Meetings and other Management Training as scheduled

Rounds on Neighborhoods for the purpose of obtaining clinical information on residents, to support and educate staff, to assist with family issues and endorses complete information to next shift. Promotes 24 x7 accurate, objective clinical and administrative reports.

Follow-up on status of residents transferred to other facilities and reports follow up to oncoming shift, Team Leader and physician

Communicates effectively with Center Departments regarding resident/family needs on tour of duty and documents communication in a clear and concise manner.

Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by your supervisor, department director, and/or administrator.

Qualifications:

Education Requirements:

Graduate of an accredited RN program

B.S. N.; M.S.N. preferred

RN in the State of New York

BCLS certificate

PALS certification preferred

Completion of courses mandated for continuation of RN license, (ex. Infection Control course; Child Abuse course.)

Experience:

Minimum of two years pediatric experience

Minimum of three years’ experience in supervision

Experience in pediatric and adolescent chronic and restorative nursing modalities preferred

Employee Requirements:Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.

Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies.

Must meet the general health requirements set fourth by the policies of this Center which includes a medical and physical examination.

Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.

Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids.

Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary.

 Working Conditions:Will work in a well-lighted and ventilated area.

Will be subject to frequent interruptions.

May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
