Summer 2025 Specialty Nurse Intern Program - Operating Room (OR)

Full-time, Day Shift Available

Specialty Nurse Internship program starts Monday, June 9th through August 16th, 2025

In conjunction with the University of Chicago Medicine’s mission to provide superior health care, the Specialty Nurse Intern is a nursing student who provides patient care in specialty areas under the direction of a registered nurse.  The Specialty Nurse Intern provides care to patients and their families by assuming defined patient care responsibilities and by performing specific clinical skills appropriate to the role.

In this year-round internship, students will be matched with the Operating Room (OR) for the duration of the academic program. The formal Summer Nurse Internship program will start Monday, June 9th, 2025, and last throughout the entire academic year. The Summer Program consists of a 10-week commitment working Full-time. Following the summer program, the expectation is to continue working throughout the entire academic year with flexible scheduling. It is the expectation that these candidates will work at UCM in the identified clinical area for 2 years following graduation.

We are looking for candidates that have a passion to work for UChicago!  Following the summer, the expectation is that the internship will continue throughout the year. The schedule will be flexible to work with your school schedule.

Interviews will be scheduled in October 2024. Also, in Februarry 2025. The interviews will be scheduled based on when the applications were submitted and all required documents have been completed. 

Required Qualifications

BLS (CPR)

Request 2 professional reference letters prior to the interview - one letter is required from a nursing instructor

Copy of most recent transcript

GPA of 3.0 or higher required

250-word essay on “What being a nurse means to you?” and “How this program will help you achieve your future goals as a nurse?” 

Be enrolled full-time in an accredited ADN, BSN, or direct-entry MSN program

Must be entering your final year in an ADN, BSN, or direct-entry MSN program in the fall of 2024

Candidates will be expected to work some weekends
