JOB SUMMARY:

Collin College uses a Trane web-based Building Automation System (BAS) program on all college campuses to ensure heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment operates efficiently and creates a comfortable environment for students, faculty and staff to learn, teach and support. This positions primary role is to operate, program, schedule, diagnose, and repair environmental-control systems valued at over $100M. This position will also assist the Campus Facilities staff in maintaining comfortable and safe indoor air quality for all occupants in all college buildings to ensure the optimum environment for teaching and learning.

Required Qualifications:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Conduct preventive maintenance, planned corrective maintenance, and emergency repairs to all building automation systems in their assigned zone as well as support districtwide efforts.

* Perform HVAC control systems programming, troubleshooting, installation, commissioning, and maintenance related to mechanical, electrical, and low voltage controls components.

* Operate energy and building management systems within a designated platform, trending, scheduling modular building controllers, workstations, programming, laboratory controls, and in coordination with campus personnel.

* Document changes and provide information for as-built documentation.

* Execute college-sponsored as well as personally initiated training to ensure the highest level of knowledge and capability are maintained.

* Conduct job training for HVAC technicians.

* Identify and make system repairs, set HVAC and lighting schedules.

* Document individual work progress within the computerized maintenance management system.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

* Perform all duties and maintain all standards in accordance with college policies, procedures and Core Values.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Knowledge of electronics, direct digital control, airflow, refrigeration theory, controls and mechanical techniques in diverse commercial settings

* Strong understanding of HVAC and lighting systems principles, functions, and components

* Strong knowledge and experience working with direct digital control (DDC) instrumentation and controls systems

* Demonstrated technical aptitude in mechanical and electro-mechanical fields

* Demonstrated knowledge of electrical techniques and concepts; ability to read floor plans, electrical schematics, etc.

* Knowledge of Microsoft Office and proficiency with mobile technology, Smartphone, I-Pad etc.

* Intermediate level knowledge of predictive maintenance

* Knowledge of BACnet, N2, Modbus, or Lon-Works preferred

* Good communication and listening skills

* Must have strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, to provide exceptional customer service

* Strong systematic troubleshooting skills

* Keen attention to detail

* Able to use hand/power tools and electrical testing equipment such as a multi meter

* Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve electrical issues

* Demonstrated ability to maintain productive working relationships and the ability to coach and mentor teammates

* Ability to maintain instrument calibration and data

* Ability to utilize computer technology to operate and manage computer based electrical systems

* Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously with high attention to detail

Physical Demands, Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects. Positions in this class typically include talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, climbing and balancing, plus pushing, pulling and lifting. Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work. Frequent physical effort required.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent certificate and two (2) years of field experience with Trane Tracer Ensemble, Carrier I-Vue or one of the other major BAS programs such as, Metasys, Apogee, CBAS, etc. required.

An associate degree in electronics, industrial technology, HVAC, or other closely related field and four (4) years of field experience on the Trane Tracer Ensemble BAS, preferred.

Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License.*

*Individuals hired for this position may be required to drive a company vehicle. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) will be run in conjunction with the background check during the contingent offer stage and annually/bi-annually for the duration of employment at Collin College. Candidates who fail the original background/MVR report or subsequent MVR reports may not be hired and/or terminated based on the results of the report.

Licenses and Certifications

Certificate in Building Automation, Electronics, HVAC, or closely related field.

Valid Texas Drivers License* and insurability with the college's insurance carrier.

A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) will be run in conjunction with the background check during the contingent offer stage and annually/bi-annually for the duration of employment at Collin College.
