Overview:

Position Summary:

The AACR has an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about the advancement of cancer science to join the editorial team of Molecular Cancer Research as Assistant or Associate Editor, based on experience level.

The Assistant/Associate Editor, Molecular Cancer Research, will report to the Editorial Director and will work from an AACR office in Boston or Philadelphia.  The Assistant/Associate Editor  will assess submitted manuscripts and  referrals from other journals in the AACR program, solicit submissions of high-quality cancer science related to the journal’s scope, write and edit for the journal, and promote the journal through outreach and networking efforts.

Responsibilities:

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Evaluates initial submissions to the journal

Collaborates with the staff of the nine “sibling” AACR journals to ensure good communication and promotion of synergistic opportunities.

Communicates with authors, editors, reviewers, and readers regarding all aspects of the journal.

Assists with the development, composition, and editing of content.

Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief and Senior Editors to identify and attract strong submissions

Represents the journal and the AACR at scientific meetings and institutional visits.

Stays abreast of the field and develop excellent relationships with the research community.

Contributes to policy implementation in conjunction with Editor-in-Chief.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Training:

PhD or MD

Authorized to work in the United States.

 Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

Expertise in cancer science or molecular biology.

Publication record in cancer research.

Familiarity with peer review processes.

Ability to communicate directly with researchers and to translate technical scientific content to a diverse readership.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Independent, self-motivated, consistently demonstrating initiative and commitment.

Must be able to travel to relevant scientific meetings and research institutes.
