Overview:
The Athletic Trainer Outreach supports the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries under the advice and prescription of a physician. Under close supervision, this role works independently and in collaboration with doctors to provide follow-up care and develop injury prevention and treatment programs for injured athletes. The position is responsible for daily practice and game coverage including management of injuries, organization and administration, implementation of sport performance programming and record keeping. The role is a part of the Sports Medicine team and act as liaison between family physicians and specialists, the school district, athletes and their parents. This position is not on-site and will work non-normal times such as nights and weekends for games and events.

Responsibilities:
Performs assessment for clinical examinations, diagnoses athletes' injuries, and determines athletes' ability to return to play or need for additional medical treatment.
Administers prescribed medications and treatments by the team Physician that aim to return the patient to optimal function.
Helps assess and evaluate musculoskeletal injuries and conditions in athletes to identify their needs.
Performs manual therapy, soft tissue mobilization, electrical modalities, and hydrotherapy techniques if applicable.
Provides patient education regarding injury prevention, anatomy, body mechanics, and rehabilitation to create long-lasting health benefits.
Creates injury reports to team physician and documents patient recovery to provide physician with information to assist in updating treatment plans.
Administers therapeutic modalities including heat, ice, electrical stimulation, and exercise to facilitate healing and recovery.
Supports the assessment of patients' readiness to return to pre-injury activities.
Demonstrates proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment to stabilize injuries for recovery.
Performs other duties as reasonably required or assigned.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Athletic Training OR Physical Education w/ Athletic Training emphasis
Preferred: Master's of Science in Athletic Training
EXPERIENCE:
Required: None
Preferred: One year of professional experience or internship in sports medicine
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required: NATABOC Certification (National Athletic Trainers Association - Board of Certification); LAT - Licensed Athletic Trainer by NC Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners; BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
