Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of the Laboratory Technician (Surgical Histology) position is to perform routine and special laboratory procedures related to surgical pathology, maintain divisional supplies; and maintain frozen section supplies ready for immediate use, assists in routine and specimen functions according to Departmental and Hospital policies and procedures, under the direction of the Chief Technologist Anatomic Pathology and/or designee. Assists with frozen section preparation and is able to perform the following: sectioning of fresh surgical tissue for frozen section, utilizing the cryostat, and fixing, staining, mounting and labeling the frozen section. Maintains daily and monthly QC reports. Responsible for labeling and disposal of biohazard waste in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Also performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Minimum of Associate’s Degree in a Hospital laboratory related science required. Three (3) years of related laboratory experience is
preferred. One (1) year of which should be in a health care environment is preferred. Ability to read, write, speak and understand, or
communicate in English sufficiently to perform job duties. Additional years of related lab experience may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
