Location Description:

Post Consumer Brands in Battle Creek, Mich., the cereal capital of the U.S., is the company's largest manufacturing plant and home to about 600 team members. When you join the team here, you'll be helping to produce some of the most iconic cereal brands, including Honey Bunches of Oats cereal, PEBBLES cereal, Grape-Nuts and Honeycomb cereal. The Battle Creek plant is also unique as it is home to the original barn where C.W. Post started the Postum cereal company in 1895. The Battle Creek team has deep community roots, supporting the city's Cereal Festival, local elementary schools, and hosting several on-site volunteer events throughout the year.

JOB FUNCTION

The purpose of this position is to provide an immersive experience and opportunity to an individual looking develop on-the-job experience in engineering at a manufacturing facility. This position will be located in Battle Creek, MI, at one of our cereal manufacturing facilities. You will work collaboratively with tenured engineers and provide front line engineering support to sustain and improve safety, quality, yield, production rates and efficiencies by working on assigned activities.

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES / DUTIES  

The CI Engineering Intern may assist in several projects and/or operations support roles in the Engineering department.  Assignments may include work such as:

Partner with Business Unit CI Engineers to become educated in Lean and Six Sigma methodology and apply knowledge to high priority projects that support plant Key Performance Indicators.

Develop, maintain, sustain, audit, train and improve the CI operating system, which consists of the Management Operating System, Problem Solving, Standard Work, and People & Leadership pillars.

Drive the deployment of planned improvements against annual targets through use of the Management Operating System (MOS), problem solving techniques, loss meetings, blueprints, etc.

Develop and drive the process, system, and forum for best practice sharing.

Specific project and operational roles will be identified 30-60 days prior to the start of the internship, based on business needs and intern interests.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be pursuing a four-year undergraduate or graduate degree or at an institution with an accredited program in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. graduating December 2025 or May 2026

Proven leadership, problem-solving and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently and in teams

Strong written and oral communication skills

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who takes initiative to identify areas of opportunity and take action

A high level of competence in computer applications and the ability to use technology as a decision-support tool

Ability to identify and evaluate tactical methods to achieve objectives, identify deviations from the plan, and facilitate resolution

Ability to handle confidential information and use discretion within and outside of the organization

Previous internship or work experience (strongly preferred)

Interest in the consumer packaged goods / manufacturing industry with the desire to start a career with Post Consumer Brands after graduation (strongly preferred)

We are unable to proceed with candidates who require visa sponsorship now or in the future
