Responsibilities:

Job Purpose

 Prep Cooks are the foundation of a successful kitchen and extremely valuable assets to talented Chefs.  The Prep Cook is responsible for meal prep duties including the preparation of ingredients, side dishes and sauces. The ideal candidate for this position works well under pressure and is dedicated to excellence. 

Responsibilities

Execute daily food preparation tasks as assigned by the head chef and Sous Chef

Manage inventory of kitchen ingredients and stock items as necessary

Communicate progress and needs with kitchen staff

Measure ingredients and follow recipes to make sauces, dressings, entrees, and side dishes

Wash and prepare food ingredients according to health department standards

Maintain a sanitary and organized work environment

Properly label food items and store in the designated area

Other duties may be assigned by management

Qualifications:

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years related experience in culinary arts, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Proper food safety training and knowledge of sanitation guidelines

Follow orders and work in a fast-paced environment

Multitask and prioritize responsibilities

Knowledge of how to properly use kitchen tools such as knives, blenders, oven, and gas range

Strong verbal and written communication in English

Strong desire to work as a team player

Education

High School diploma preferred

Specialty/Technical training preferred

Skills/Abilities/Personal Characteristics

Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen

Knowledge of basic cooking techniques

Organizational skills.

Patience

Manual dexterity

Communication skills

Attention to detail

Ability to work under pressure

Working Conditions

Days and hours of work vary by schedule and business needs

Evening, weekend, and vacation work will be required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand for long periods of time, to walk, read, hear, talk, balance, climb, use hands, use fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, smell, taste, push or pull.  The employee may be required to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
