Overview:

High School Tutor

Status: Part-Time

Pay Rate: $21/hourJOB SUMMARY:

High School Tutors work directly with high school students to achieve mastery of grade level academic content in small groups. High School Tutors must be able to support students with high school coursework including advanced math, ELA, and science material based on student need and/or teacher guidance. High School tutors serve as a positive adult role model, coach, and mentor to high school students, and they must demonstrate a genuine interest in the academic growth and educational achievement of students. The High School Tutor’s primary goal is to ensure their students are on track to graduate high school college and career ready.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide small group and individualized academic support for high school students.

• Provide guidance to students for advanced High School coursework.

• Utilize AVID strategies to support students in goal setting, work habits, and skill building.

• Create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging for students.

• Serve as a positive adult role model for students in the program by setting and maintaining appropriate boundaries.

• Work with students to improve their grades and stay on track to graduation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• 48 college semester or 60 college quarter units OR a Bachelor’s Degree are required.

• Ability to speak and write Standard English appropriate in a public-school setting.

• Minimum age of 22

• At least six months experience working with a group of 10 or more students in a classroom, afterschool, or recreation environment.

• Advanced Math and English skills (6 – 12 grade)

• Excellent communication skills (Written and Verbal)

• Support our English-learner population by being bi-literate (Spanish preferred)

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain highest degree of confidentiality.

• Comply with organization policies and follow procedures.

• Must pass Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting)

• Provide a clear TB test.

• Pass Advanced Math and English skills (K–8) testing.
