Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Technician in our Seattle, Washington office. The position is ideal for individuals interested in building a career in the environmental construction and consulting fields. The role will assist with sample collection of a wide range of media including, but not limited to, soil, sediment, water, and air for environmental testing; conduct water quality sampling for discharge permit compliance and environmental remediation projects; provide comprehensive documentation of all field-related activities to senior level project personnel; and provide additional field and office support to project managers for a diverse private and public sector client base. The ability and willingness to work outdoors, perform extensive fieldwork, and travel for short periods of time, including overnights, weekends, and holidays is required. An interest in building a career in the environmental consulting field is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Collect samples and perform field tests on process water, surface water, and groundwater samples primarily associated with industrial treatment processes, groundwater remediation systems, or due diligence activities;

Monitor activities on job sites to assure compliance with relevant contract documents (e.g. technical specifications, construction drawings, sampling plans, work plans, Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) Plans, etc.);

Provide CQA monitoring on several types of construction and/or environmental activities on enviro-civil construction sites;

Prepare daily and weekly field reports, construction schedules & progress reports;

Prepare water quality data summaries and reports and communicate with client representatives in a timely manner;

Assure project documentation is correct and consistent with client contract requirements, company policy & procedures;

Interact with project personnel (contractors, project managers, engineers & clients) and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communications and participation in work progress meetings;

Assist in the preparation of the final reports, work plans, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices;

Observe and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans and the company’s Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures;

Perform tasks in other company practice areas including general construction services, environmental sampling, contractor oversight, or construction quality assurance activities, as needed.

Be available for weekend or overnight shifts as required. Overnight shifts may be required for periods that last for multiple weeks.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) (required) and two (2) years of applicable experience (preferred); or an Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college; or a Bachelor’s degree in science, construction management, engineering, physical science, environmental science, or related subjects; or equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, Technical experience in construction services, geotechnical, environmental, or related engineering disciplines. 

Experience ensuring field activities comply with construction plans and specifications and the ability to monitor several different types of activities simultaneously. (preferred)

Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, including survey and topographical drawings. (preferred)

Experience with the operation of industry typical monitoring and data collection equipment, including but not limited laptop and handheld computers, Troxler moisture /density gauges, scales, Elkins or GEM, and other equipment. (preferred)

Experience with multi-media sampling including soil, water, and air. (preferred)

Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word software programs. (required)

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, compute rate, ratio, percent, and draw and interpret bar graphs. (required)

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, and strong work ethic. (required)

Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering controls. (required)

Ability to speak and hear, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. (required)

Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)

Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)

Valid U.S. driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and reliable transportation, for business travel. (required)

Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified Washington location below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

Minimum Pay Rate: $22.18/hour / Maximum Pay Rate: $36.73/hour (Seattle)
