Overview:

Our Nuclear Services Group is seeking a Department of Interior certified Archaeologist for a part-time position in either our Kennesaw, GA; Oklahoma City, OK; Naperville, IL; Fort Worth, TX or Dallas, TX office location. There is also an opportunity for a remote position as well. In this role, you will have the opportunity to perform and lead historic and cultural resource assessments in support of nuclear environmental licensing projects nationwide.

Responsibilities:

Conduct background research to identify potential archaeological resources within project areas

Develop and implement archaeological survey plans in accordance with federal and state regulations (e.g., National Historic Preservation Act [NHPA])

Oversee and participate in archaeological field surveys, including excavations and data collection

Analyze archaeological data to assess the significance of identified resources and potential impacts from proposed projects

Prepare technical reports documenting survey findings and participate in the development and implementation of mitigation plans, if necessary, to minimize impacts on archaeological resources

Evaluate the impacts of licensing on historic properties and support consultation with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC and appropriate State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO), Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO), or Indian Tribes

Liaise with regulatory agencies, tribal stakeholders, and other project team members to ensure compliance with cultural resource laws

Maintain a strong understanding of federal and state regulations governing archaeological resources associated with nuclear licensing

Qualifications:

Graduate degree in history, archeology, anthropology, architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or closely related field; or the minimum professional qualifications meeting the Secretary of Interior’s standards in 36 CFR Part 61, “Professional Qualification Standards”

10 plus years of relevant experience

Experience with Section 106 of the NHPA and the implementing regulations at 36 CFR Part 800, “Protection of Historic Properties”

Proven experience in conducting archaeological surveys, excavations, and data analysis

Strong understanding of federal and state regulations governing archaeological resources, particularly those related to nuclear licensing (e.g., National Historic Preservation Act, 10 CFR Part 51)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare technical reports, present findings to diverse audiences, and effectively communicate with regulatory agencies and stakeholders

Ability to communicate highly technical environmental data to a range of audiences from agency regulators to elected officials and the public

Experience developing technical reports, environmental reports and supporting regulatory reviews

Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to travel/work in the field 20% of the time. Typical travel duration will be 3-4 days. Office work is typically 80% of the time for this position. Fieldwork can include site visits and meetings with clients and applicable regulatory agencies
