Overview:

The Rehabilitation Aide/Transporter (Rehab Aide) will transfer and transport patients and provide patient care under direct supervision of a clinician within the policies and procedures of KKI and the departmental program and in accordance with laws and regulations of the state of Maryland. This professional will assist clinical staff in the provision of patient care programs and perform supportive tasks, including those serving the administrative, maintenance and operational needs of the program.

Responsibilities:

Prepares, maintains and cleans patient treatment areas before & after treatment sessions. Adheres to KKI policies regarding patient & staff safety, hygiene, patient privacy and patient-specific and standard precautions.

Assist in the practice of therapeutic exercise & functional activities programs under direct supervision of a PT, OT or COTA, as per Maryland state law.

Demonstrate appropriate application and removal of electrodes and orthotic devices, as well as technical proficiency of adaptive equipment and rehabilitation modalities. Informs clinicians of any adverse effects.

Greet, transport and assist patients with hygiene/dressing needs.

Reminds and clarifies appointment schedules for patients in conjunction with clinicians’ treatment plans and care center scheduling. Provides general program overview and conducts tours of the clinic for new patients and families.

Maintain program supplies, including ordering, inventory control, labeling and storing supplies. Participate in maintenance, organization, care, cleaning, transport, tracking, scheduling and safe storage of equipment. Identify and correct/report quality control problems, such as removal and coordination of repair of broken equipment, or environmental hazards.

Actively participate in meetings and committees including execution of tasks related to preparing for regulatory review and performance improvement projects. Attend staff and supervisory meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications:

Possess and maintain CPR certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

*Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by KKI.

*Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.

EDUCATION:

High School Graduate/ GED required.

AA/AS degree preferred.

Enrollment in health occupation curriculum, certification, or academic program is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Some previous experience working or volunteering in a hospital or clinical setting preferred.

Experience working with or treating children or adults with developmental or acquired disabilities is preferred.
