UofL Health - Mary & Elizabeth Hospital is a 298-bed, full-service hospital which has served generations of patients in south Louisville. Originally founded by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in 1874, the hospital offers a full range of vascular, orthopedic, cardiac, neurological, surgical, rehabilitative and 24/7 emergency services including 24/7 STEMI service.

Mary & Elizabeth Hospital is home to UofL Health – Weight Loss Care, the region’s only weight-loss management program utilizing the Lap-Band® System. In addition, the hospital provides the Orbera® gastric balloon procedure. The hospital has been recognized as one of the first health care facilities in the nation to receive a Blue Distinction® Center for bariatric surgery.

The hospital partnered with sister facility, UofL Health – Peace Hospital to open a voluntary inpatient medical detox unit at Mary & Elizabeth Hospital to care for patients with substance use disorders. Most recently, Cancer & Blood Specialists, located adjacent to the Mary & Elizabeth Hospital campus, became the third location of UofL Health – Brown Cancer Center. At the center, patients will have continuity of care with trusted oncology and hematology providers, along with access to the multidisciplinary care, pioneering research and clinical trials of the Brown Cancer Center. In addition to the hospital, Mary & Elizabeth has three medical plazas on its campus to provide office space for a wide array of primary care and specialty physicians.

As an academic health care system, we will transform the health of the communities we serve through compassionate, innovative, patient-centered care.As a professional member of the interdisciplinary health care team, the PRN chaplain provides extensive and intensive spiritual care to patients, families, and staff from diverse spiritual/religious backgrounds with respect for the dignity and unique experience of each person.

Responsibilities:

• Provides spiritual care coverage on various shifts throughout the hospital and clinics and in assigned clinical areas.

• Gathers and evaluates relevant information pertinent to the holistic care of patients and their families

• Develops and implements spiritual care plans to promote the well-being of care recipients, including but not limited to crisis intervention, spiritual care and counseling, assistance with religious/spiritual rituals

• Provides spiritual care and counseling for patients and their families in response to referrals and through proactive rounding

• Documents assessments and interventions in the Electronic Medical Record

• Collaborates with other care providers to promote the well-being of patients and their families

• Provides spiritual care to employees and affiliates through group and individual interactions

• Respects the confidentiality of information from all sources, including the care recipient, legal, or organizational records, and other care providers

• Serves as a liaison to community clergy and collaborates with community clergy in the care for patients and their families

• Provides spiritual care to the organization in ways consonant with the organization’s values and mission statement.

• Provides staff and community education on matters of spirituality and spiritual care

• Participates with staff chaplains in the orientation and education of CPE interns and residents as needed and requested

• Makes referrals to community resources as appropriate

• Provides ethical counseling to customers as indicated and requested

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION & TRAINING: Master's degree in Divinity, Spirituality or equivalent from an accredited institution preferred.   Bachelor's degree and coursework toward a Master's degree in Divinity, Spirituality or equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) units of ACPE accredited Clinical Pastoral Education and additional clinical experience as a health care chaplain preferred; one (1) unit of ACPE accredited Clinical Pastoral Education required.

LICENSE & CERTIFICATION:  Eligibility for board certification through BCCi, NACC or NAJC (Neshama) preferred.
