Position Description:

Areas of responsibility 

As an Electrical Engineer II at Applied Medical, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and testing electrical systems and components for medical devices. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the electrical systems meet product requirements and comply with regulatory standards. Additionally, you will contribute to the troubleshooting and resolution of electrical issues, ensuring the safety and reliability of the medical devices. 

At the direction of an Engineering II, you will be responsible for working within the framework of a team and performing the following activities: 

Schematic design of new and innovative projects 

Analyze the hardware and firmware of embedded medical electrical systems with an emphasis on power management, digital and analog controls, and low frequency (500 kHz) high power (500 W) RF amplification 

Participate in firmware creation for programmable logic devices such as DSPs, FPGAs, and CPLDs 

Participate in hardware and firmware design reviews 

Provide design know how for external vendors and supplier development 

Support other groups during integration of hardware, firmware, and software 

Test and troubleshoot PCBAs and system level electrical systems 

Develop, update, and peer-review engineering documents such as instructions, drawings, test procedures and reports 

Performance objectives  

Within your first 6 months, you will be responsible for learning about our company, contributing to various projects and leading project management initiatives.  

During your first 30 days, you will:  

Learn about Applied Medical’s mission and vision and take part in a variety of Applied Learning foundational courses

Discuss your goals and expectations with your team leaders and read and review all relevant team resources and materials

Immerse yourself in team meetings and discussions

Within 60 days, you will:  

Exhibit a strong technical understanding of the product lines and projects 

Support team meetings and agendas

Take on one or more projects that require low to moderate guidance

Within 90 days to 1 year, you will:  

Develop interpersonal connections and relationships with others to effectively accomplish project objectives and deliverables

Lead moderate to complex projects with minimal guidance or direction

Demonstrate a strong understanding of Applied Medical’s Quality Management System (QMS) and effectively troubleshoot challenges or obstacles that may affect project timelines

Handle a variety of projects on your own

Inside this business group 

The Technology and Development Electrical team oversees the product development of the Advanced Surgical Device systems, exemplified through the Voyant Intelligent Energy System.  The Technology and Development Electrical team takes products from ideation to production and through maintenance throughout the product's life cycle.  Engineers with electrical, software, and computer engineering backgrounds collaborate to design highly optimized embedded systems that meet users' needs without burdensome costs. 

Position Requirements:

This position requires the following skills and attributes: 

4 year degree in electrical engineering or related engineering degree 

1-2 years minimum of professional engineering experience 

Experience with Altium 

Electronics troubleshooting skills with ability to use oscilloscopes, signal generators, and other lab equipment 

Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook 

Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills 

Ability to effectively communicate hardware and firmware details to team members of all levels 

Ability to understand, analyze, and troubleshoot complex systems 

Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams 

Experience with working hands-on to create prototypes 

Preferred:

This position prefers the following skills and attributes: 

Experience with medical device development 

Experience with analog and mixed signals design 

Experience with microcontrollers, DSPs, FPGAs, and/or CPLDs 

Experience with Verilog, VHDL, C/C++, and/or assembly 

Experience with ARM processors or similar 

Experience with compilers and debuggers 

Experience with Quartus and/or Vivado 

Experience with regulatory requirements for medical electrical equipment (e.g. IEC (phone number removed), IEC (phone number removed)-2) 

Benefits:

The base compensation range for this role is $70000 - $95000 / year for the position in California. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries in California based on the date of this job posting. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range compensation package during your hiring process. 

Please understand that the compensation range may be modified in the future. Each amount of pay is considered to be wages or compensation once such amount is earned and determinable. The amount and availability of any bonus, commission, benefit or any other form of compensation may be modified at the Company’s sole discretion, consistent with the law.
