Job Description:

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Facility Engineer at our Hyde Park Location. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

The Facility Engineer leads the energy utility (electric, natural gas, steam, domestic water) management including procurement planning, consumption tracking, benchmarking, budgeting, energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions & carbon footprint data, and reporting. Prepares monthly operating statements, and annual energy reports which include quantitative improvements in energy efficiency and HVAC operations. Maintains UCMC Facilities Standards for Construction and Renovation including annual review with Plant Department and updates. Perform MEP review of all Project Designs by FD&C and BSD Project Management departments for compliance with UCMC Facilities Standards, maintainability, and energy efficiency requirements. Project Manage energy and operational efficiency improvement projects where necessary.

Primary Job Functions:

Creates facility wide plan to manage energy efficiency initiatives, emissions goals, and energy management systems

Prepares reports, statistics and analysis on departmental metrics and operational subjects relating to UCMC goals and departmental initiatives including energy metrics, energy consumption reductions, internal customer satisfaction, goal achievement, emissions, and benchmarking.

Acts as a MEP systems technical resource, to departmental leadership and support staff. Manages and updates the Facilities Department Standards for Construction and Renovation.

Develops tools to assist supervisors and managers in the management of energy HVAC systems and operations.

Reviews design drawings from UCM & BSD Renovation and construction projects for compliance with the Facilities standards and for good maintenance design.

Conducts studies, coordinates operational improvement plans, and provides recommendations for improvement of operations & processes to reduce energy consumption and improve HVAC system operations using new and inventive ways to increase energy efficiency. Review building automation trends to identify issues and generate work orders. Monitor supplemental systems (Aircuity, Everactive, EnergyCAP, building analytics) for issues and serve as point of contact for associated vendors.

Performs contract reviews, RFP development as necessary to scope selected infrastructure project. This includes the definition of quality and pricing breakouts.

Provides scope and budget assistance in developing budgets for infrastructure capital projects. Manages infrastructure projects as necessary to support Facilities Department needs. Projects will be technical in nature and will have an energy focus depending on priorities.

Oversees the utility budgeting (operational and capital) activities for all Facilities Design and Construction cost centers. This includes gathering preliminary budget projections, service and supplies, budget preparation and analysis, budget presentation, and monthly reporting.

Tracks and analyzes expenses, and identifies activities and other factors that affect expenses. Presents reports of financial information to the department's leadership to allow for effective decision making and planning. Perform daily checks of metering data to identify anomalies.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering required.

A minimum of five years’ experience in HVAC, facilities and/or energy management.

Must have worked with energy monitoring and building automation systems. Experience with energy metering and metrics is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

CEM (Certified Energy Manager) Certification 

Excellent working knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook. Working knowledge of building automation systems (e.g., Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric).

Ability to quickly develop proficiency in proprietary software programs.

Ability to communicate effectively in written format and oral presentations.

Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment.

Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility and leadership qualities.

Must have ability to access areas that are physically restrictive (e.g., building mechanical rooms, roofs, sub-basements, crawl spaces) for routine and investigative field checks and surveys.

Must be able to work within a hospital and research laboratory environment.

In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 40 hours per week.  We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work the 1st shift, from approximately 7:00am-3:30pm.  We anticipate you will be scheduled to work 100% at the Hyde Park campus.  We anticipate that you will be scheduled to work on weekdays (Monday-Friday.)

Must comply with UCMC’s COVID-19 Vaccination requirement as a condition of employment. If you have already received the vaccination, you must provide proof as part of the pre-employment process. This is in addition to your compliance with the Flu Vaccination requirement as well. Medical and religious exemptions will be considered consistent with applicable law.
