Job Description

Summary: The Instructional Designer I, under the direction of the Director of the Hayworth Center for Digital Learning (HCDL), will assist in the development of graduate-level and professional studies instructional design & delivery and recommend best practices for both traditional and adult learners. The Instructional Designer I will work directly with faculty on the creation of high-quality, web-enhanced, hybrid, and online courses which effectively use technology to enrich teaching and learning.

The university's full-time and adjunct faculty are experts in their field, and the Instructional Designer I will assist faculty to share their expertise through high-quality course design within the university's learning management system, Canvas, and quality assurance model, Quality Matters.  The Instructional Designer I will research and recommend new technologies and pedagogies to further drive the vision of the HCDL. The Instructional Designer I works closely with faculty using a range of technologies and systems to develop dynamic and pedagogically/andragogical sound online and hybrid courses.

The Instructional Designer I reports to the Director of the HCDL. This position is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

Assists faculty in the development of digital learning components and tools, such as learning modules and multimedia learning components.

Provides high-quality consultation services in the effective use of educational technologies in teaching and learning, and in the discovery, selection, and evaluation of information.

Assists faculty with the development of course material in the digital space by recommending best practices for organizing course content, selecting and formatting student activities that are appropriate for the course level and assessment artifacts (assignments, exams, question banks).

Maintains current and useful online, web-based resources, such as tutorials, reference material, design standards, and templates for HCDL.

Support faculty who are new to online or teaching in digital spaces.

Manages multiple instructional design projects simultaneously and shifts the priority of projects based on evolving community needs

Conducts internal Quality Matters course reviews.

Collaborate with the Center for Advancement of Faculty Excellence to offer development for adult and online learning strategies and trends.

Promote collaboration, partnerships, and relationships among faculty and staff.

Non-Essential Duties:

Other duties and special projects may be assigned to meet department and University needs.
